McLaren unveils new logo

MANILA: McLaren has just revealed its new logo that is rooted in the company’s storied history. 

Appearance-wise, the company’s signature Speedmark was modernized, but the font of the new “McLaren” logo pays homage to the signboard of a petrol service station in Auckland, New Zealand, owned by Bruce McLaren’s parents. 

According to McLaren lore, it was here that Bruce McLaren built, or rather, rebuilt a 1929 Austin 7 Ulster into a race-winning car. And yes, the McLaren family lived above the aforementioned shop. 

Notably, both McLaren Automotive, the company that sells sports cars, and McLaren Racing, the entity behind the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 team, will utilize the latest iteration of the McLaren logo.

Additionally, the first car that will don the revamped logo will be the McL 6GT. 

And for a bit of exciting news, the company said it will expand its lineup beyond just two-seater sports cars to include sport-utility vehicle nameplates as well. In fact, the company is currently developing one soon, and it will be a part of the next phase of its long-term growth strategy. 

Alongside the upcoming SUV model and the new logo is the expansion of its manufacturing and engineering capabilities in the United Kingdom. This will involve a £500 million (around P41 billion) investment. 

“There is something uniquely special about McLaren. Throughout our history, we’ve never been content to follow established paths,” McLaren Automotive Chief Creative Director David Woodhouse said. 

“We’ve always looked ahead, driven by a restless desire to innovate, create and push beyond expectations. This evolution of our visual identity captures that spirit. It’s a reflection of the journey we are on as a company. It marks the beginning of a new chapter for McLaren, giving a physical expression to the ambition, creativity, and forward momentum that is shaping our future,” Woodhouse added. 

For now, though, no other information about its upcoming SUV model was mentioned. Its latest model, the McL 6GT, however, has a lot of qualities that are capable of titillating the senses of a driving enthusiast. 

McLaren McL 6GT

The latest car to be globally debuted by McLaren is the McL 6GT - a very exclusive supercar inspired by the legendary M6GT. 

What makes the McL 6GT special is its focus on providing a tactile driving feel. Specifically, it was designed to make driving more engaging by way of mechanical bits such as hydraulic steering, physical switchgear, and visible engineering details. 

The crown jewel of the McL 6GT, however, is its traditional H-pattern stick shifter that sends power to its rear wheels. This goes with a twin-turbo V8 internal combustion engine with no electronic assists from a hybrid system. 

For now, the model's output figures have yet to be published by McLaren, but we can surmise that it is definitely a quick car. 

Apart from what was already mentioned, it has a low-drag bodywork that is mostly made out of carbon fiber. Per the brand, this results in a very strong power-to-weight ratio that headlines its capability as a track-focused car.
