MMDA: EDSA Busway fully operational by September 2020

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that all the 16 bus stops of the EDSA busway will be 100% operational by September 2020.

With the agency sets to take delivery of 9,000 concrete barriers within the week, 83 days earlier than initially scheduled, it will be able to finish the segregation of the busway located on the innermost lane of EDSA.

“As per the directive of (Department of Transportation [DOTr>) Secretary Tugade, we will fast-track the completion of the EDSA Busway together with other concerned agencies. The delivery of barriers will be along EDSA already so mailalagay na rin natin ang mga ito (we'll be able to install them) upon receipt,” said DOTr Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor.

Aside from the concrete barriers, elevators for handicapped commuters have already passed inspection and are ready to be installed.

“Natapos na yung inspection sa mga nasabing bus stops—anytime, ang target time po ay September, fully operational na po lahat ng 16 bus stops natin sa kahabaan ng EDSA (We have finished the inspection for the said bus stops—anytime soon, our target is September, the 16 bus stops along EDSA will be fully operational),” said MMDA Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago.

Currently, four bus stops — Santolan, Ortigas, Guadalupe, and Main Avenue — are already operational and are being used already by commuters.

There are a total of 550 units traversing the EDSA Busway and these include buses that are part of the MRT-3 augmentation service.

The EDSA Busway aims to significantly cut travel time from Monumento, Caloocan to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) from the usual two to three to just 45 minutes to an hour.
