MMDA’s No Contact Apprehension Effective From Today
MANILA: In an attempt to curb road accidents and to ensure that people follow the traffic rules correctly, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s ‘No Contact policy’ will spring into action today. The new regulation was announced with the tagline ‘Gotcha’ as the authority has installed more than 200 HD CCTV cameras across various locations in Metro Manila. The announcement for the policy being effective from the 15th of April were already made last Sunday, in an official program hosted by MMDA’s head Ronnie Rivera. According to Mr. Rivera, all the necessary CCTV equipment has been installed and thoroughly tested for footage quality, with 100 more cameras to be installed in the coming months.
In case you’re totally unaware of this new No contact apprehension, then it is the latest step by MMDA where they will utilize high definition CCTV footage to curb any traffic violators within Metro Manila. The cameras will also keep a close check on the license plate expiry and will send printed summons directly to the respective addresses of the violators within 3 days. If any traffic violator is caught on camera and sent a summon, he/she will also have 7 days to report to the authorities to resolve the matter. In case that doesn’t happen, the apprehended party will be sent a final notice before their licenses are blacklisted and authorities show up at their doorstep.
Although there are slim chances for anyone to go that far, as according to Mr. Rivera 7-10 days is ample amount of time for most violators to resolve their cases. But the enforcement of this policy doesn’t mean that the Manila roads will have a fewer number of traffic policemen as the ‘No Contact Apprehension’ is only there for providing additional support to the enforcers. The violators can pay their fines at the MMDA main office in Metro Manila or at their nearest MetroBank branch. In case the violator doesn’t agree with the summon, they can file a protest at the Traffic Adjudication Division office, within 7 days after receiving the summon.
