Number coding suspended on Aug.23-26

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be suspending the expanded number coding scheme on August 23 and August 26, 2024.  

The aforementioned was posted by the government agency on its official Facebook page. 

To note,  August 23 was declared a holiday to celebrate Ninoy Aquino Day. The said holiday was moved after the issuance of Malacanang Proclamation No.665. Traditionally, Ninoy Aquino Day is celebrated as a special non-working day on August 21, 2024. 

August 26, 2024, meanwhile, is a public holiday to celebrate National Heroes Day. 

As a reminder, the expanded number coding scheme, or simply “coding,” is an anti-congestion measure enacted by the MMDA for the entirety of Metro Manila. 

The said scheme is made active during rush hour times. Specifically, it is enforced from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays (excluding holidays).

Private cars with number plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited from plying major public roads during the aforementioned times on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and 8 on Thursday, and 9 and 0 on Friday.
