PUV drivers allocated with 2.5-B financial aid

MANILA: Makati City Representative Luis Campos Junior shared that public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers are allocated with a P2.5 billion-funding for 2024 that is eyed to aid them with the rising fuel prices.

“Congress earmarked the sum of P2.5 billion in the 2024 national budget specifically for the direct fuel subsidies to public utility vehicle drivers, including tricycle, ride-hailing, and delivery service drivers,” the Vice Chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations said.

“On top of the amount for the transport sector, we also allocated another P510 million in financial assistance to provide relief to small farmers who use fuel to drive their agricultural machinery,” he added.

Campos also noted that the government is determined to sustain the annual funding for the subsidies to vulnerable sectors as long as the Dubai crude oil price based on Mean of Platts Singapore has reached a specified amount per barrel.

To note, the Philippine government last year gave modern jeepney and UV Express drivers P10,000 each while other public transport drivers received P6,500 each in subsidies.

Delivery riders last year also received P1,200 each while tricycle drivers received P1,000 each.
