SCTEX toll hike starts today

MANILA: NLEX Corporation has started the implementation of the toll rate increase on the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) today, as approved by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).

According to the TRB, the petitions for toll rate adjustments were filed by NLEX Corporation in 2020 and 2022.

After reviewing the petitions, the TRB approved the toll rate adjustments. However, to lessen the impact to the motorists, the agency directed the toll road operator to implement the toll fee hike in three tranches over the period of three years.

The new toll rates of the first tranche are P5.17 per kilometer (km) for Class 1 vehicles, P10.34 per km for Class 2 vehicles, and P15.51 per km for Class 3 vehicles.

"With these toll rate adjustments, NLEX Corporation is expected to operate and maintain the SCTEX in accordance with the required level of service and standards, and will pursue necessary improvements and expansion works that shall redound to the benefit of the tollway users by way of safe, convenient, fast, and worthy travel experience," the TRB said in a statement.
