Upcoming Bentley Torcal goes all-in on sustainable interior materials

MANILA: Bentley has revealed that its upcoming Torcal sport utility vehicle (SUV), its first-ever all-electric model in this body type, will use sustainable materials in its interior.

Key to these are Merino Wool, walnut off-cuts combined with recycled paper, and the new Sunburst Aluminum technical finish. 

For starters, the Crewe-based luxury marque has partnered with Fox Brothers, a renewed fabrics manufacturer, to create a new wool-based fabric that is 100 percent certified sustainable by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). 

This will be applied to most surfaces of the vehicle’s interior and is said to be naturally breathable while keeping the “exacting demands of a luxury vehicle.” 

Next up is the Ombre Veneer, which debuts on the Bentley Torcal. This surface is a more environmentally friendly alternative to wood inlays, as it is made from sustainably sourced walnut offcuts combined with recycled paper. 

With 1,000 layers pressed together, it forms a realistic approximation of real walnut wood shades and tones that are said to complement the geometry of the vehicle’s cabin. It wasn’t where this material will be used, but pictures indicate that the Ombre Veneer will be utilized on the Torcal’s dashboard. 

Last but not least is the Sunburst Aluminum technical finish developed by Mulliner, the brand’s in-house commissioning and bespoke coachbuilding division. The aforementioned, according to the British brand, is a reinterpretation of machined-aluminum dashboard trim found on classic Bentleys.

Bentley Torcal: what we know so far

The Bentley Torcal was teased by the carmaker a few months ago as its fourth active model alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. 

No specifications about its powertrain were revealed just yet, but it was dubbed as a “true Luxury Urban SUV.” This means it will be more compact than the Bentayga, which has a wheelbase of 5,125 millimeters in its standard version. 

Additionally, the Bentley Torcal’s name was revealed after the debut of the EXP 15 concept car last year. On the one hand, the luxury manufacturer said the EXP 15 won’t be turned into a production car, but we can expect some of its exterior design elements to influence the look of the Torcal. 

For now, let us wait for more updates from Bentley regarding the upcoming Torcal EV SUV, which will be revealed in September 2026.
