Luxury sports car mogul Ferrari was revealed to the autoworld in 1929 and since its ignition the Italian carmaker is manufacturing ludicrous designs exploring its ingenious box. The automaker unleashed another prancing horse out of its Maranello stable in February 2015 with the all new “Ferrari 488 GTB” reincarnation of the earlier mid engine sports car Ferrari 458 Italia. The 488 GTB, with GTB moniker as Gran Turismo Berlinetta indicates the unitary engine displacement of the car. The sophisticated dynamics and highly efficient engine proffers responsiveness of this grand turismo tantamount to F1 track level. Ferrari manoeuvred the 488 GTB in March 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show, giving another shot of adrenaline rush to the Filipinos.

Interior & Features

The pedigree of aesthetics continues inside the cockpit with the F1 inspired racing genes. The cabin of 488 GTB is tailored intuitively and ergonomically with all the controls placed around the driver. The refined dashboard in two toned black over red finish and the red stitching over the seats symbolizes the prancing horse. The Turismo features the classic F1 inspired three spoke multi functional steering wheel with familiar control clusters for easy access. The central console features less buttons to distract driver with refined infotainment for easy driving and navigation. Apart from this, Ferrari 488 GTB proffers a decent boot volume of 230-litres.

The all new Ferrari 488 GTB symbolizes aggressiveness of a sports car with its efficiently designed aerodynamics derived from the Maranello's track experience. The turismo kept extant the epithet of the Italian carmaker bestowed with classical Ferrari styling presenting an amalgam of refined mechanics and dynamics. To the front their exists the central Aero Pillar and an F1-inspired double spoiler which augments the efficiency of both the radiator and downforce generation. The 488 GTB has an ingeniously designed under-body incorporating vortex generators and aerodynamic appendages accelerating the air and reducing pressure, as a result the car is down-forced but drag remains same. The front bumper divided into three sections having massive grills where the mid section is separated by vertical tauts giving the car a silhouette of a F1 racing car. The contribution to these efficient aerodynamics does not stalls here as the dimensions of GTB measures 4568 mm X 1952 mm X 1213 (L x W x H). The GTB is rolled over machine finished standard tyres of 245/35 ZR20 to front and 305/30 ZR20 to the rear.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

With superior dynamics the lifeless vehicle is animated to life with a roar featuring a rear mounted 3.9 litre V8, 90° Turbo Dry Sump engine, churning out a maximum 670hp at 8000 rpm. With its twin scroll IHI turbos the car is pushed at a torque of 760 Nm with relatively low revs at 3000 rpm. The 7-speed F1 dual clutch transmission coupled with the V8 engine makes the turismo sprint to a figure of 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds ceaselessly until it hits the top speed of hair waving 330 km/h. The combined cycle HELE systems and a weight reduction strategy allows the turismo to deliver decent mileage of 11.4 L/100km.

Braking Safety

In the Ferrari 488 GTB one can buckle up and push the throttle to the end without fearing the safety, credit goes to the Italians for embedding the car with ample of safety features. The turismo features specialized carbon ceramic brakes for reducing the unsprung mass of the car within short range. The electronic control development focuses on maximum responsiveness comparable to track cars. The finesse of safety does not stalls here as 488 GTB’s excellent dynamics are in part of SCM 3 magnetorheological damping system which has a fast ECU that modifies the magnetic field in the dampers improving stability of car.

The all new Ferrari 488 GTB is a rechristened version of the earlier 458 Italia, with more turbo under the hood, pride is in its engines without caring the number of cylinders. The 488 GTB is power packed car with great aerodynamics and out of the box safety features. Why go for any Berlinetta or Mclaren 650s or Huracan when less moolah can get you a 488 GTB.
