Isuzu F-Series

Similar to its exterior design, the Isuzu F-Series’ cabin layout also prioritizes functionality more than anything else. Its cabin has more than enough room for the driver and the co-pilot. Upfront, the driver has access to a high visibility instrument cluster, which consists of analog gauges and a multi-information display and a large two-spoke steering wheel. 

In terms of convenience, all variants come with a USB accessory socket and a power window with an auto down function on the driver’s side. The FXM60W and GXZ60N (TRACTOR) variants get an air-conditioning system as a standard. Buyers may opt to get the optional AC system for the other variants. Additionally, its seats offer decent support and are very easy to clean and maintain in the long run.

Dimensions vary depending on the variant and configuration, with length ranging from 6,890 mm to 11,900 mm, width from 2,200 mm to 2,485 mm, and height from 2,540 mm to 3,002 mm. The F-Series’ wheelbase spans between 4,650 mm and 7,195 mm.

Design-wise, the Isuzu-F Series is pretty straightforward. At the front, it comes with a new front grille design, which enhances its ruggedness wherever it goes. Like the other series, it proudly displays a huge ‘ISUZU’ lettering above its imposing grille. 

On the driver’s side, these medium-duty commercial vehicles come with a built-in step board and a steel vertical long grip for easier ingress and egress. The FRR90M and FRR90MS AMT variants run on 8.25R16-16PR tires, while the rest are given 11R22.5-16PR tires. 

Depending on the variant and configuration, the F-Series boasts very generous gross payload capacities, ranging from 7,295 kg to a whopping 20,435 kg. All in all, the F-Series’ exterior design focuses more on practicality and functionality than modern aesthetics. 

The Isuzu F-Series model line utilizes front and rear Multi-Leaf Spring suspensions. This setup is credited for these medium-duty commercial vehicles’ maneuverability, despite their sizes and weights. This setup helps these commercial vehicles remain stable while carrying maximum loads. 

The Isuzu F-Series offers two powertrain options. First, the FRR90M, FRR90MS AMT, and FTR90M variants are powered by a 5.2L, 4-cylinder, turbo-intercooler, common-rail direct injection, Blue Power diesel engine that delivers a maximum power output range of 190 PS to 210 PS and a maximum torque range of 510 Nm to 706 Nm.

On the other hand, all the other variants are powered by a 7.8L, 6-cylinder, in-line, common-rail direct injection, Blue Power diesel engine that produces a maximum power output range of 240 PS to 345 PS and a maximum torque range of 706 Nm to 1,324 Nm.

In terms of transmission, the higher-powered variants come mated to a 9-speed manual transmission system, while the rest except for the FRR90MS AMT and FVR34QS AMT variants come mated to a regular 6-speed manual transmission system. The said two variants run on a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) system.

All variants have plenty of torque to allow it to pass through steep inclines even with a full load. These workhorses are powerful and capable on the highway. And, for their sizes, the F-Series vehicles offer good fuel economy, which is definitely important in the long run. 

In terms of safety, some variants of the Isuzu F-Series are equipped with an anti-lock braking system and hill start assist. Meanwhile, the FXM60W and GXZ60N (TRACTOR) are also equipped with electronic vehicle stability control. All variants come with a reverse warning buzzer and a cab tilt lock warning.

In terms of braking, the FRR90M, FRR90MS AMT, and FTR90M variants utilize air-over-hydraulic drum brakes, while the rest utilize the full-air version of the same brake type.

Currently, the Isuzu F-Series still remains as one of the most trustworthy and road-capable within the medium-duty commercial segment. Over the years, the F-Series has proven itself to be a durable and cost-efficient set of cargo haulers, thanks to their robust chassis and reliable diesel engines.
