Isuzu N-Series Interior & Features
Inside, the Isuzu N-Series trucks come with a very straightforward cabin layout. Similar to its exterior design, its interior is also purely functional to the core. Upfront, the driver is given a traditional-looking instrument panel, which consists of a high visibility meter, warning lights, and switches, along with a large two-spoke steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment functions. The tilt variant also comes with a new cab tilt indicator system for enhanced safety when on the go.
In terms of comfort and convenience, its cabin is quite roomy and its seats are surprisingly plush for truck standards. All variants are equipped with a tuner radio with USB input, which is connected to two speakers. The majority of the N-Series models also come with a USB charging port and power windows. Ultimately, this Series’ cabin design still feels solidly-built (despite the presence of hard plastics everywhere) and is very easy-to-clean and maintainable in the long run.
N-Series Exterior
Dimensions vary depending on the variant and configuration, with length ranging from 4,675 mm to 7,355 mm, width from 1,815 mm to 2,040 mm, and height from 2,190 mm to 2,310 mm. This model line’s wheelbase also ranges from 2,475 mm to 4,175 mm.
Upfront, the N-Series trucks get a huge windshield and fish-eye side mirrors, both of which ensure that the driver has maximum visibility on the road at all times. These trucks also get big boxy headlamps and turn signals. And, for better maneuverability, these trucks adopt a cab-over design (i.e., bonnet-less). An ‘ISUZU’ lettering along with a Blue Power diesel engine badge add more detail to its front end. Underneath, these trucks are given a steel bumper bar for enhanced durability and added protection.
The N-Series models look like your typical light-duty truck on the side. The 4-wheelers run on 7.50-15-12PR tires, while the 6-wheelers offer three tire options: 7.00-15-12PR, 7.50-16-12PR, and 7.50-16-14PR. For easier ingress and egress, these trucks also come with side step panels. At the back, the N-Series offers a gross payload capacity that ranges from 2,360 kg to 5,740 kg. Overall, the N-Series’ design is very purpose-driven and functional.
Isuzu N-Series Ride & Handling
The Isuzu N-Series comes with front and rear Multi-Leaf Springs. For its size, it is surprisingly nimble to maneuver and feels very stable even with a full load. Its setup also allows it to soak up bumps and other road imperfections quite decently.
N-Series Engine & Fuel Consumption
All variants of the Isuzu N-Series are powered by a 4-cylinder, turbo-intercooler, common-rail direct injection Euro IV, Blue Power diesel engine but with different displacements and tuning options. First, the NQR75L and the NQR75L Smoother variants are powered by the 5.2L version of the said engine, which delivers a maximum power output of 155 PS and a maximum torque of 419 Nm.
Meanwhile, the rest of the other variants are powered by the 3L version of the same engine that produces a power output ranging from 106 PS to 124 PS and a torque output ranging from 230 Nm to 354 Nm.
In terms of transmission, the Smoother variants come mated to a 6-speed automated manual transmission system, while the rest of the 4-wheelers and other 6-wheeler models come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system. The NQR75L trim runs on a 6-speed manual transmission system.
With all of these in mind, the N-Series trucks are capable of passing through steep inclines even with a maximum load thanks to their torque-focused diesel engines. This series’ Blue Power diesel engine feels really capable yet refined at the same time, which is really surprising for a truck or a commercial vehicle in general. And, on top of this, this engine boasts top-notch efficiency, whether you are passing through traffic or hauling heavy loads.
Isuzu N-Series Braking & Safety
In terms of safety, all available variants of the Isuzu N-Series are equipped with a reverse warning buzzer and a cab tilting buzzer. The NQR75L and the NQR75L Smoother variants utilize hydraulic drum brakes, while the rest come with the vacuum-type counterpart.
N-Series Verdict
Setting aside its basic design and dated cabin layout, the Isuzu N-Series still excels in terms of practicality, functionality, and reliability for modern commercial vehicle standards. It remains as one of the most well-rounded in the light-duty commercial segment.
