Peugeot 5008

The cabin layout of the Peugeot 5008 is shared with the 3008 SUV, which is not a bad thing at all, considering how cool-looking is the layout of this cabin. The overall cabin has an all-black layout with gloss black and silver touches, but it is the arrangement of various panels which catches one’s attention.

The bits which make the cabin of the Peugeot 5008 look very different from other SUVs are a high-placed 12.3-inch full-TFT instrument console in a dedicated housing, two-spoke steering wheel with gloss black spokes, chrome-finished controls and flat edges on upper and rear parts of the steering wheel and wraparound design for the centre console. The instrument console gets Peugeot’s 3D i-cockpit design, which impresses one with its different funky-looking options for display.

The centre console of the cabin of the Peugeot 5008 too is something worth describing, which has a 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and angular AC vents on the upper part and toggle like switches for climate control and a wireless charging pad on the lower part. At the bottom of the centre console, there is a horizontal gloss-black panel which houses the unique-looking L-shaped transmission lever and drive mode controller. Other features of the cabin of the Peugeot 5008 include a push start-stop button, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a 6-speaker audio system and power-adjustable front seats.

For a seven-seater, the Peugeot 5008 looks very dramatic. While it has all the elements which give it a distinctive and striking personality, the overall design looks proportional without going overboard. That being said, the Peugeot 5008 has a sense of extremism in its design, which will surely appeal to the younger minds more.

The Peugeot 5008 appeals straight to the heart with its distinctive-looking front fascia, which comprises a frameless grille in the middle. Flanked with unique inverted U-shaped all-LED headlamps on its upper edges, the grille gets extended stripes on the sides of the grille, which further makes the face of the SUV look wide. The LED headlamps come with daytime running LED strips on their sides, which extend down to the front bumper. The lower part of the bumper gets gloss black scoops on the sides and black cladding on the lower portion.

The side profile of the Peugeot 5008 looks much similar to that of the smaller 3008, which gets bulges on the front and rear fenders that are joined by sharp creases flowing across the door panels. It is towards the D-pillar, where the distinctiveness in the design of the 5008 appears over the 3008 with bigger rear quarter glass panels. Even the 18-inch Detroit machined alloy wheels look different.

Towards the rear, the Peugeot 5008 looks lesser radical in comparison to the 3008, with a slight vertical rear windscreen. Though, it also comes with a gloss black spoiler, slimmer and angular D-pillar design, smoked effect for the clear lens LED tail lamps and thick cladding on the rear bumper.

The added weight due to the addition of the third row at the back hasn’t robbed the driving dynamics of the 5008 much over the 3008. The Peugeot 5008 also comes with the four grip modes of traction control – Normal, Snow, Mud and Sand – which ensure tremendous levels of grip.

The Peugeot 5008 shares its powertrain with the smaller 3008, which is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This engine promises a maximum power output of 165 bhp, while the peak torque output is rated at 240 Nm.

The Peugeot 5008 retains its long list of safety features from the 3008, which include six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, dynamic stability control, active blind-spot monitoring system, active lane keep assist, advanced driver attention warning, hill start assist, 180-degree reverse camera, hill descent control and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.

If one’s budget permits, the Peugeot 5008 with its extra third row of seats, unique and premium cabin, extrovert exterior styling and well-sorted driving dynamics is a stretch worth making.
