Suzuki GSX-R1000 Design
The previous generations of Suzuki GSX-R1000 were criticized for being too clinical or unenthusiastic to look at, but that is not the case with this one. In this latest iteration, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 derives much of the aerodynamics from its MotoGP version, which makes it look a lot curvier, sportier and a treat to look at.
At the front, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 gets a single headlamp setup, which is a full LED unit and is flanked by two thin strips of daytime running LEDs on the upper corners. Just like before, the headlamp gets air vents beside it which aids in wind deflections at higher speeds. The bike does get fairing mounted rear view mirrors, however, they don’t come with turn integrated indicators.
The side profile of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 is the best angle to look at it. The side fairing has grown in size, and so has the fuel tank. The fuel tank and the rear tail section are linked in a very curvy manner with the tail section ending up in an LED tail lamp and split seats. Here too, the indicators have been moved to their conventional position- on the rear fender. The only disproportionate thing in the side profile of the GSX-R1000 happens to be the oversized single exhaust, which, just doesn’t look good.
The Suzuki GSX-R1000 now comes with a fully digital instrument console, and for the first time, it comes with a fuel gauge and gets the regulars like speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, temperature gauge, gear indicator and selected ride mode.
GSX-R1000 Ride & Handling
This time around, Suzuki has used with the best possible hardware to make sure that the GSX-R1000 holds a candle against all of its litre class rivals in terms of precision. The motorcycle is fitted with inverted hydraulic telescopic forks up the front and gets a linked monoshock at the rear.
The suspension is on a stiffer side to make the handling even more aggressive. Furthermore, it is assisted by the fatter tyres over the 17-inch alloy wheels.
Suzuki GSX-R1000 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Suzuki has tried to retain the basic characteristics of the four-stroke inline-four liquid-cooled fuel-injected 999 cc engine. However, the engine has gone under a number of minute changes and has had incorporation of new components, which, as a result, have bumped up the performance of the motorcycle. The engine now produces a maximum power output of 201 PS and a peak torque output of 118 Nm. The power figures make it the most powerful GSX-R1000 to date. Like before, the engine comes coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, which does get a slip and assist clutch as well for those smooth gear shifts.
GSX-R1000 Braking & Safety
As with all the super-sports around, the GSX-R1000 is armed with twin disc brakes up front and gets a single disc at the rear.
This current iteration of Suzuki GSX-R1000 is the most sophisticated and tech-packed Gixxer of all times. Apart from the regulars such as ABS, traction control and three different riding modes, the motorcycle also gets a Continental Inertial Measurement Unit, which keeps the motorcycle on track in the slickest manner.
Suzuki GSX-R1000 Verdict
The Suzuki GSX-R1000 has always been one of the most practical super-sport machines for daily usage. With this current iteration, while it continues to be so, in the process it comes with an added sense of aggression. Whether it is the performance from the inline-four or the revamped riding dynamics, the new Suzuki GSX-R1000 has become even more involving while riding. This makes it equally joyful to ride for both amateurs as well as professional riders.
