UM Duramax UX

While the UM Duramax UX is positioned as an entry-level naked commuter motorcycle, the hint of a low-slung cruiser in its overall visual appeal somehow tries to make it noticeable amidst the sea of entry-level basic motorcycles. The longer front forks, low-slung appeal with low seat height, a pillion backrest and high-set handlebars do give the UM Duramax UX an impression of a cruiser, which is hard to ignore. 

The front profile of the UM Duramax UX has been kept simple, with a basic rounded halogen headlamp taking centre stage here. Sitting within a blacked-out cowl, this halogen headlamp has a single-pod instrument console above it, which, though, doesn’t get any visor or cowl ahead of it. This headlamp is also accompanied by rounded clear lens halogen turn indicators, with the motorcycle getting a silver finish for the long front forks and a unique-looking set of curved rear view mirrors mounted on the handlebar.

The cruiser essence in the overall design of the UM Duramax UX becomes more evident when the motorcycle is viewed from the side. This commuter-cum-cruiser motorcycle features a trapezoidal fuel tank in a tapered fashion, much like how it is on cruisers. The Duramax UX also gets trapezoidal side body panels, along with a silver-themed engine casing and a beautiful-looking set of multi-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels. The long single exhaust pipe and the large but basic-looking seat somehow look very simple and go well with the overall entry-level styling of the motorcycle. 

The UM Duramax UX has a very basic and commuter-ish appeal at the back. Like most of the other cost-effective entry-level commuters, it also lacks rear section body panels beneath the seat. However, the UM Duramax UX tries to distinguish itself from the others with a pillion backrest, a rarity in bikes of its class. This pillion backrest is further accompanied by a luggage rack mounted behind it, with the UM Duramax UX also getting a simple halogen setup for the tail lamp and turn indicators. 

Just like the rest of the design of the UM Duramax UX, the single-pod instrument console of the motorcycle also looks very basic, with it having analogue readings for the speedometer and odometer. The fit and finish levels of the UM Duramax UX feel very basic and below average, though, and need considerable improvement despite its cost-effective positioning. 

While the design of the UM Duramax UX might have some sort of uniqueness, the overall mechanical structure beneath its skin is very basic. This commuter motorcycle gets a functional and conventional suspension setup of telescopic forks at the front and dual hydraulic coil springs at the rear. With an upswept handlebar and mildly forward-set foot pegs, the UM Duramax UX feels easy and relaxed to ride. The motorcycle comes with a unique combination of a 2.75-18 tyre at the front and a 110/90-16 tyre at the rear, which further strengthens its cruiser connections. For braking, the basic setup of front disc brake and rear drum brake do their job fairly well.

The UM Duramax UX is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 125cc engine, which produces a maximum power output of 10.5 bhp and a maximum torque output of 8.9 Nm. Paired with a 5-speed gearbox, this engine feels decently powerful for its size but suffers from inconsistency in refinement and lack of breath at higher RPMs. 

The UM Duramax UX does not offer modern safety features, for this motorcycle is purely meant as an entry-level motorcycle built with a low price point in mind.

While the UM Duramax UX might not be technically rich or lack the finesse of a modern motorcycle even by entry-level motorcycle standards, its unique cruiser-inspired styling has to be its unique selling point.
