UM Xtreet 230 R

UM has tried to make the Xtreet 230 R look sporty for a 200-250cc motorcycle. However, while the motorcycle looks busy, it doesn’t have the modern appeal required for a new-age performance-oriented naked roadster. The overall design is a mix of many elements, as a result of which it looks a bit disproportionate from some angles.

At the front, the UM Xtreet 230 R has bulging out headlamps present in a sloped headlamp cowl. This cowl comes attached with clear lens turn indicators on either side and has a tiny black visor sitting atop it. Apart from this, there is nothing much to talk about the front fascia of the motorcycle.

The UM Xtreet 230 R has got some busy design cues when it is viewed from the side. The motorcycle has a sleek looking fuel tank, which is rounded from the sides and has a sloping-down design from the top. The fuel tank has got sleek-looking LED lights on its sides placed on the tank cowls, which make it look funky. Another design element that adds some liveliness to the overall side profile of the UM Xtreet 230 R is the contrast finish for the trellis frame under the fuel tank. The motorcycle comes with 7-spoke alloy wheels, which along with the underbody exhaust pipe and engine, is painted in a theme of black.

The UM Xtreet 230 R has a sharply rising tail section, which accommodates slim panels on its sides and a split seat arrangement on the top of it. The tail section of the motorcycle ends up with an angular clear lens LED tail lamp with split pillion grab rails above it. The UM Xtreet 230 R comes equipped with a fully-digital instrument console, which has a funky and youthful layout. The console packs in data for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meters and a range of warning lights.

While the overall design of the UM Xtreet 230 R tries hard to stand out from the crowd of other naked roadsters in its segment, it now looks a bit dated. Even the fit and finish levels leave a lot to be desired.

The UM Xtreet 230 R is a simple motorcycle under the skin with humble mechanicals, which has helped UM to keep the costs in check. The Xtreet 230 R gets a conventional suspension setup of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a mid-mounted mono-shock at the rear. The overall ride quality is decently comfortable, and thanks to the low kerb weight of 120 kg, the motorcycle feels easy to handle in all riding environments. The UM Xtreet 230 R rides on 110/80-17 tyre at the front and 120/70-17 tyre at the rear, while a single disc brake setup at both ends take care of braking duties.

The UM Xtreet 230 R sources its power from a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 223cc engine, which is the most powerful naked roadster engine the American bike maker has come up with. Coupled with a 5-speed gearbox, the engine produces 17.3 PS of maximum power and 16.5 Nm of maximum torque. While this engine might be the most powerful naked roadster engine from UM, it feels underpowered for a 200cc+ engine, as even some of the smaller 150-180cc engines produce equivalent or higher power than this engine.

While the UM Xtreet 230 R skips out on prominent safety aids like ABS, it has a security system with a burglar alarm, which allows the fuel tank-mounted LED bars to light up in case someone tries to insert a duplicate key in the ignition keyhole.

The UM Xtreet 230 R is a fairly decent motorcycle for the price at which it is offered. The performance from the engine feels adequate, while the overall handling is very easy. These attributes make it an easy and decently powerful commuter to live with.
