Do you need COVID-19 insurance when you travel?

A year after the COVID-19 pandemic started, we are still continuing our fight to curb the spread of the infectious disease. The government is still putting the country in a degree of lockdown to control the surge of cases and the number of patients confined in hospitals. As a precaution for this, many Filipinos are considering to get COVID-19 insurance plan or coverage from reliable travel insurance companies.

Just recently, Malayan Insurance introduced the Vital Cover plan, which contains five main policies that will take care of the finances of service-oriented workers, office employees, senior citizens, and other people who go outside for essentials in case of virus contraction.

The Vital Cover provides cash assistance such as Daily Hospital and Loss of Life lump sum benefit to the assured due to COVID-19. It also covers death due to dengue or chikungunya, medical reimbursement for accidental injuries, and accidental death.

The insurance plan can provide up to P300,000 worth of coverage for death due to COVID-19. People aged 1 to 64 can avail of a semi-annual premium for as low as P130, while people aged 65 to 75 can avail it for as low as P195.

To use the benefits, the assured must be diagnosed within the policy period or the reporting period. According to Malayan’s website, “They must also have contracted after 14 days from the policy’s effectivity and within the period of endorsement or waiting period.”
