13th PEVS: GAC Aion PH shows off upcoming UT

MANILA: GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Corporation Aion Philippines previewed the UT at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). 

The Chinese marque’s local arm has yet to specify its launch date for the Philippines, but it was indicated that it will be “introduced to the local market soon.”

Per the brand, the upcoming Aion UT has already become one of GAC’s fastest-selling models, reaching 1,000 deliveries in just 39 days after its initial global launch in Thailand. The aforementioned can be attributed to the model’s attractive hatchback-like design and wide array of on-board features, which were calibrated to suit the needs of urban dwellers seeking a comfy yet practical all-electric crossover. 

Sounds good so far, but GAC Motor PH has yet to release the model’s complete specifications and features list for the Philippines. With that said, let’s check out the global version while waiting for the Philippine-spec GAC Aion UT to arrive.

GAC Aion UT: global specs

Power-wise, the global version of the GAC Aion UT uses a 201-horsepower electric motor paired with a 60-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. It also provides a range of up to 500 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

For charging, the GAC-made crossover’s global market version has a direct-current (DC) fast charging rate that’s able to increase its state-of-charge from 30-80 percent in just 24 minutes. 

Inside the model is a five-seater layout equipped with leather upholstery, automatic climate controls, and a second row with as much as 905 millimeters (mm) of legroom. The second row seats can likewise be folded flat for extra utility, whereas its trunk boasts a “multi-layer” design that can accommodate up to 32-inch suitcases. 

Dominating the dashboard of the global market Aion UT is a 14.8-inch touchscreen equipped with built-in navigation and Apple CarPlay. The driver’s side portion of its dash, meanwhile, was kitted out with an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster. 

Additionally, the global market GAC Aion UT comes with a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include, but are not limited to:

• Automatic emergency braking
• Forward collision warning
• Lane departure warning
• Emergency lane keep assist
• Blind spot detection
• Door open warning
