13th PEVS: GAC Motor PH rolls out all-new Aion V, Hyptec HT

MANILA: GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group Corporation) Motor Philippines has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) lineup by launching the all-new Aion V and Hyptec HT for the Philippine market. 

The Aion V is touted by the brand as an all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) designed to meet the demands of urbanites. The Hyptec HT, meanwhile, has been described as a “flagship electric SUV” boasting a wide variety of technologies. 

GAC Aion V

With regard to powertrains, the GAC Aion V uses a single permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) that’s capable of producing up to 221 horsepower (hp) and 240 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque for the top-spec Premium trim. The model’s top-of-the-line trim also has a 75.26 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and a range of 603 kilometers (km), according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

Thanks to its PMSM’s output, GAC says that the Aion V is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 7.9 seconds. Likewise quick is its direct current (DC) fast charging capability, which can increase its battery state-of-charge from 30-80 percent in just 20 minutes. 

Like most EV models in the market right now, the Aion V comes with regenerative braking, as well as a drive mode selector (comfort, sport, and power saver). 

Concerning features, the model comes with a five-seater interior layout equipped with leather seats, an automatic air-conditioning system, power-adjust and ventilated front seats, front seat massage functionality, a built-in refrigerator, ambient lighting, and a 60:40 split-folding second row. 

Its driver, meanwhile, is provided with the following:

• Automatic anti-glare rearview mirror
• Leather steering wheel
• Four-way adjustable steering column
• Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
• 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster
• Voice control

For its main display, the GAC Aion V uses a 14.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay that’s linked to a nine-piece speaker set. The model also comes with several USB ports and a 50-watt wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Its exterior, on the other hand, is equipped with power-folding side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, LED lighting fixtures, automatic headlamp functionality, flush door handles, acoustic soundproof glass, rain-sensing wipers, roof racks, and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels.

Safety-wise, the model has a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems consisting of adaptive cruise control, 360-degree view camera, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning and assist, intelligent high beam control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear collision warning, rear-cross traffic alert, and door open warning - among others.

GAC Hyptec HT

For the GAC Hyptec HT mid-size SUV, its powertrain is a PMSM that can dish out 335 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Power is sent to its rear wheels.

Per the Chinese car brand’s local arm, the said engine output allows the Hyptec HT to accelerate from zero to 100 kph in just 5.8 seconds. Its 83 kWh battery also provides a NEDC-indicated range of 605 km. 

Moreover, the model’s fast charging DC port is capable of increasing its battery levels from 10-70 percent in just 15 minutes. It also has comfort, sport, and power saver drive modes, as well as regenerative braking. 

GAC also highlighted the Hyptec HT’s “3D rapid cooling system” and IP67 water resistance rating of its battery. 

Inside the GAC Hyptec HT is a spacious five-seater arrangement complemented by leather upholstery, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and an ambient lighting system. 

The model’s front seats get power adjustability, massage, and ventilation functions. Its rear seats, meanwhile, have a built-in leg rest, 60:40 split-folding, and a 143-degree reclining function.

Dominating the GAC Hyptec HT’s dashboard is a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P processor. The said display also has Apple CarPlay, and is linked to a 22-piece Dolby Atmos speaker set. Topping up devices inside the vehicle is also done conveniently through its numerous USB ports and its air-cooled 50-watt smartphone charging pad. 

Specific to the driver of the GAC Hyptec HT are the following: 

• 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster
• Four-zone interactive voice control system
• Auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Microfiber/leather steering wheel
• Electronic parking brake

For the top-spec GAC Hyptec HT Ultra, its most recognizable exterior feature is its pair of gullwing doors, which can be closed and opened automatically with a push of a button. 

Otherwise, the model’s lineup of exterior equipment also includes LED lighting fixtures, power-folding side mirrors, a heat-insulating panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass, a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, flush door handles, and a set of 20-inch wheels - among others.

Pricing

Regarding pricing, the all-new GAC Aion V starts at P1.498 million, while the Hyptec HT starts at P2.26 million. 

To note, both EV nameplates come with an eight-year, or 160,000-kilometer (km) vehicle warranty (whichever comes first). Likewise packaged with the two is a 200,000-km or eight-year battery and electric motor control system warranty (whichever comes first).
