13th PEVS: BYD Cars PH introduces the eMAX 9 DM-i

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines, under the distributorship of Ayala-owned ACMobility, has launched the all-new eMAX 9 dual-mode intelligent (DM-i) at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). 

The all-new BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) featuring a three-row, seven-seater layout, touted to meet the needs of buyers seeking a plush yet fuel-efficient (and environmentally friendlier) people-carrier. With that said, it is set to face the Toyota Alphard hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) in the Philippine market.

So, what is the all-new BYD eMAX 9 DM-i offering to prospective buyers? Let’s find out here. 

Powertrain

Propelling the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, paired with an electric motor, as well as a 20.4 or 36.6 kilowatt-hour (kWh) Blade Battery, depending on the trim. 

Similar to other of the brand’s Super DM-i nameplates, the internal combustion mill serves to charge the model’s Blade Battery, which in turn powers up an electric motor. 

In total, the said system can generate up to 267 horsepower (hp) and 315 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. For the top-spec Premium trim with the larger 36.6 kWh battery, it can provide an electric vehicle (EV) range of 170 kilometers (km). Its overall extended range, meanwhile, can go up to 1,000 km. 

Ride quality for the large MPV is handled by a MacPherson strut front end and a multi-link rear suspension system equipped with BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension technology. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes for all four wheels. 

Moreover, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i Premium comes with a fast direct current (DC) charging port that can increase its battery power levels from 30-80 percent in just 30 minutes. Beyond that, the model also has regenerative braking with selectable levels of intensity. 

In emergencies, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i can also be utilized as a source of power via its vehicle-to-load (V2L) system. The said component can likewise make outdoor trips more fun as it can power up electronic camping devices.

Exterior

Style-wise, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i assumes a boxy shape that is complemented by a large grille and a pair of sharp LED headlamp clusters. It also has some degree of chrome trimmings framing its window line, a modest amount of character lines, and an eye-catching LED taillight bar. 

While the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i feels massive up close, its overall feel leans towards an elegant look. It doesn’t have much in the way of dramatically curved or keenly angled surfaces, but it strikes a good balance between looking quiet and appearing “modern.” 

Concerning exterior equipment, the model also has a power-side door function for easy ingress and egress. The aforementioned is paired with a power tailgate, which makes loading and unloading cargo more convenient.

Interior

The pièce de résistance when it comes to the all-new BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is its interior. Specifically, it offers a spacious and well-appointed seven-seater layout with electronic adjustment for all seats. Even its third row can be stowed away to provide more cargo space with the push of a button. 

In the second row, the all-new PHEV MPV comes with two captain seats equipped with massage functionality, a power-activated leg rest, and folding tables. Both the front and second row seats also come with ventilation, lumbar support, and adjustable headrest side wings. 

Further upping the luxury levels of the eMAX 9 DM-i is a refrigerator mounted on the rear-most section of the front cabin’s center console. 

For upholstery, the BYD MPV utilizes Nappa Leather. Soft leather surfaces are likewise spread around the model’s cabin, such as the dashboard and interior door cards. Everyone inside, on the other hand, is kept cool by a triple-zone automatic climate control system with vents spread inside the MPV. 

Handling on-board entertainment and navigation for the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is a 15.6-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The said screen is linked to a 12-piece speaker system, and it is also capable of connecting to 4G networks, receiving over-the-air updates, and accessing the BYD cloud service (BYD App). 

Topping up devices inside the vehicle is also done easily, thanks to a 50-watt wireless smartphone charging pad, a 12-volt accessory outlet, and numerous USB ports. 

Other notable interior features of the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safety

For its basic safety kit, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i comes with eight airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, traction control, electronic stability control, anti-rollover control, hill-hold control, hill-start assist, anti-lock braking, and tire pressure monitoring. 

The aforementioned is reinforced by an array of advanced driver-assist systems collectively called the DiPilot suite. The said collection of ADAS components consists of: 

• 360-degree view camera
• Eight sensors (four front, four rear)
• Adaptive cruise control
• Rear cross traffic alert
• Rear cross traffic braking
• Lane departure assist
• Blind spot monitoring
• Door opening warning
• Intelligent high beam control

Price

As of its launch, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i’s entry-level Advanced variant retails for P2.678 million. The top-spec Premium trim, meanwhile, is available for P2.998 million. 

Each purchase of the all-new BYD MPV nameplate is packaged with a portable charging cable and a wall-mounted charger.
