MANILA: Ahead of the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) 2025, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has shared that the local new energy vehicle (NEV) segment has received further support via investments from both local and international corporations.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which entities are investing in the growth of the Philippine electric vehicle industry?

According to EVA, the lineup of entities investing to grow the Philippine EV industry includes a yet-to-be-named Chinese corporation, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, Asia Development Bank, and StB GIGA Factory.
  • What is the schedule of the 13th PEVS?

The 13th PEVS is scheduled to kick off from October 23-25, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
  • On the local side, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) announced its plan to invest an additional P7 million in the country over the next five years. Per the Japanese marque’s local arm, it will be supporting the Philippine Government’s call for the proliferation of electric vehicles (EV)

A few months ago, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) campaigned for the new Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS), which is expected to generate up to 700,000 local EV-related jobs in EV assembly, battery production, EV charging station installation, and EV maintenance. The aforementioned could also pump out a potential economic output worth P11.4 trillion

On the international side, the Board of Investments (BOI) divulged that a yet-to-be-revealed Chinese entity is exploring the possibility of putting up local EV manufacturing facilities, as well as renewable energy equipment.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) also said that it will infuse $100 million (around P5.841 million) into the local EV market via a financial arrangement with Ayala Corporation - the mother company of local BYD distributor ACMobility.

Australia-based StB GIGA Factory also inaugurated the first-ever EV battery manufacturing plant tin the country. It is situated in New Clark City, and it is currently producing enough batteries for up to 18,000 EV units by 2030.

“After lobbying for the legislations and national policies that initiate and propel the growth of the local EV sector, EVAP recognizes the fact that we remain in a more crucial time,” EVAP President Edmund Araga said.

“EVs require sufficient and reliable charging infrastructure nationwide. At the same time, we should also get to the forefront of the development of more efficient and accessible battery technologies. Hence, we are supporting national efforts to establish more partnerships with the private sector and potential investors,” Araga added.
