2020 Volkswagen T-Roc R is one mean crossover

MANILA: If you are someone who loves enthusiastic crossovers, well, then you are in for a treat here. Come 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and Volkswagen will officially unveil the 2020 T-Roc R. In case you are wondering what is Volkswagen T-Roc R?

Well, it is the meanest version of the Volkswagen T-Roc, which is a B-segment crossover. The T-Roc R boasts a turbocharges motor, aggressive design language, and a “motorsport-inspired” cabin inside.

To start with, let’s discuss the outside of the car. The front of the 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc R features a striking bumper that houses some extensive air-intakes. On the rear, there is an entirely new bumper, and a pair of dual-oval exhaust outlets stick out from either end.

What else differentiates this crossover from the non-R T-Roc is the polished front grille that is made up of anodized aluminium. What’s more? The T-Roc also gets a skid plate at the front, wider wheel arches, matte-chrome painted side mirrors, black-painted brake callipers featuring the “R” logo, and 18-inch or 19-inch (optional) alloy wheels.

Moving inside the crossover, we find an interior that has been inspired by motorsport. There is a lot of stainless steel used on the inside. The logo “R” can be seen on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-fabric seats, and door sill plates. The likes of stainless steel pedals, paddle shifters, and black headliner further enhance the sporty appeal of the 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc R.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged inline-four motor producing an overwhelming 300 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 400 Nm. This is the same mill that powers the Golf R, albeit in a different state of tune.

Power delivery to all four wheels is taken care of by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with 4Motion All-Wheel Drive system by Volkswagen. A sprint of 0-100 kmph takes no more than 4.9 seconds, and the top speed is 250 kmph (electronically limited).

The changes made to the chassis and suspension provide the crossover with better handling and lower ride height. The 2020 T-Roc R comes equipped with a sport suspension and a distinctive Race Mode for those in need of speed. Just like the Gold R, the T-Roc R also benefits from 17-inch disc brakes for ultimate stopping prowess.
