A New 3.6L Pentastar V6 from Fiat Chrysler

MANILA: Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) has updated its 3.6L Pentastar V6, the new power generator has undergone some serious transformation that is aimed towards a better fuel economy and higher performance. The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the first in the lot to be fitted with this new improved engine before making its presence felt in the future line-up.

The 3.6L Pentastar engine is already equipped with a variable valve timing (VVT), but the said engine is a bit different and is fitted with a two-step VVT. With this advancement, the new engine will be worthy of offering a better fuel economy with a rise of 2.7%. Another major improvement comes in the form a new cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) that apart from increasing efficiency also provides knock-free ride at higher loads.

On a normal ride, this powerhouse churns on a 'low-lift mode' and when the need for power increases, it shifts to a 'high-lift mode', thus providing better combustion inside. Fuel economy further increases by 0.8% with the advanced ERG that also helps to reduce the emission and pumping loss.

Also, the engine now gets an optimized fuel injection system and an increased compression ratio that now reads as 11.3:1. Another interesting fact that adds to the engine utility is its weight, though the new mechanisms add 13 pounds, but the weight management team worked well and took off 17 pounds. The result is a lighter new engine with a difference of exact 4 pounds from the parent engine.

Coming to the performance, the new 3.6L Pentastar will deliver higher power and torque figures. The new horsepower will bump up to 295 from the older 290, similarly the torque figures will witness a rise of 15 percent below 3000 rpm.
