CALAX Receives GREEN Award from Santa Rosa LGU

MANILA: MPCALA Holdings Inc. (MHI), the developer and operator of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), was recently recognized with the coveted GREEN (Gearing towards Robust, Engaging, and Eco-friendly Nature) Award by the City of Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The awarding ceremony was held at the City of Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex last July, where the local government unit recognized MHI for its outstanding contributions to sustainability and environmental responsibility. MHI was recognized by the City of Santa Rosa as a true Sustainable Development Partner for its steadfast commitment to promoting environmentally friendly practices and ensuring a more sustainable future.

The GREEN Awards is an annual celebration in the City of Santa Rosa that honors notable projects and initiatives from a diverse range of partners and individuals, encouraging others to build a community that has a strong commitment to nature and its conservation.

“This recognition serves as a testament to our dedication to not only providing a state-of-the-art expressway system but also to ensuring that it harmoniously coexists with the surrounding environment, positively impacting the communities it serves. The GREEN Award reflects the fruitful collaboration between MHI and Santa Rosa in nurturing a more sustainable and eco-conscious region, and it further motivates MHI to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of its operations,” MHI President and General Manager Raul Ignacio stated.

MHI is committed to making CALAX a “green highway,” showcasing the vital role that its parent company, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), has played in leading initiatives to decarbonize the transport industry in the Philippines. This demonstrates MHI's commitment to sustainability and is in line with MPTC's goal of establishing a transport infrastructure that is more ecologically conscious and eco-friendly and will benefit both motorists and the environment.

The 45-kilometer CALAX high-speed road network, which will link the provinces of Cavite and Laguna, is expected to serve around 45,000 motorists once completed. To date, CALAX operates from Biñan, Laguna up to the east of Silang, Cavite.

The operational portions of CALAX incorporate resource-saving and emission-reduction technologies while prioritizing road safety. The solar-powered toll booths are self-sustaining in terms of powering their operations. CALAX has also implemented barrier-less entry, lowering vehicle emissions at toll plazas and ensuring faster vehicle throughput.

To further reduce emissions, MHI is also establishing biodiverse areas and planting trees along CALAX. MHI's continuous commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through the development of green spaces at strategic locations like the Mamplasan Entry/Exit, Santa Rosa Interchange, and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Entry/Exit.
