Changan Eado EV460 fleet powers GrabTaxi Electric Fleet

MANILA: A fleet of Changan Eado EV460 will be utilized to power GrabTaxi Electric.

Launched in partnership with EV Taxi Corporation, Grab Philippines’ newly-revealed offering is said to be the country’s first-ever full-electric, on-demand taxi fleet officially recognized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

In a statement, Grab shared that the new project is set to commence operations in Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Paranaque, and Pasay.

Per Grab Philippines, the aforementioned launch builds upon its pilot study in June 2024 with BYD Philippines, which affirmed that electrification is a cost-effective and scalable model for urban mobility. 

“This is not just about offering another ride option,” Grab Philippines Country Head Ronald Roda was quoted as saying.

“It’s about fundamentally changing the DNA of urban transport in the Philippines - one that aligns with our sustainability commitments, empowers Filipino commuters, and creates meaningful green livelihoods. Sustainability cannot be a distant ideal; it must be something you can book, ride, and feel today,” he added.

For his part, said EV Taxi Corporation President Frankie Ang expressed pride of being part of the initiative.

“Our partnership with Grab proves that when multinational platforms and local innovators work together, we can fast-track a cleaner, more inclusive future for transport - one that delivers value for both passengers and drivers alike,” he explained.

According to Grab, GrabTaxi Electric is part of its eco-mobility strategy, which includes expanding EV adoption across its GrabCar fleet in Davao and Cagayan De Oro within the year. The staggered rollout will be supported by voluntary contributions for environmental conservation efforts for every Grab transaction, and deeper collaboration with government and private sector partners to accelerate EV ecosystem readiness nationwide.

Currently in beta, GrabTaxi Electric allows passengers to seamlessly book electric taxis within the Transport tab of the Grab app, alongside traditional Grab mobility services. Feedback from passengers and drivers during this phase will shape the future design, expansion, and service model of the offering. 

Here are some details about the Changan Eado EV460.

The car is powered by an electric motor that can dish out:

The mill is mated to a Ternary (lithium ion) battery that gives it an emissions-free range of 430-550 kilometers (based on New European Driving Cycle standards).

Among the vehicle’s creature comforts are:

• Seven-inch digital instrument cluster
• 10-inch high-definition touchscreen
• Sunroof

In terms of safety amenities, the vehicle comes with:

• Six airbags
• Smart key with illuminated push start/stop button
• Anti-lock braking system
• Electronic stability control
• Brake assist
• Traction control system
• Hill hold control
• Emergency stop signal
• Reverse camera
• Rear parking sensors
• Isofix

To note, the Eado EV460 is no longer part of Changan lineup in the Philippines.
