DOTr: 130K Driver's License Cards Set to Be Released by Sept.

MANILA: Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista stated that approximately 130,000 pending driver's license cards are expected to be issued by September.

“By September, na-deliver na lahat ‘yung pending natin na dapat iisyu. As I have mentioned earlier, ang pending natin na hindi pa na-isyu na mga license ay nasa around 120-130,000 na (By September, all the pending ones that should be issued will be delivered. As I have mentioned earlier, our pending unissued licenses are around 120,000 to 130,000),” Bautista said.

“Dati nagbigay tayo ng statement na almost 400-500,000 ‘yung pending kasi isinama natin dito yung mga in-extend natin up to October. Remember, noong April 24, nagkaroon ng Memorandum Circular extending the validity of license expiring April 24 to October 31. By September, pwede na natin iisyu ‘yung lahat ng mga license na ‘to (Previously, we gave a statement that almost 400,000 to 500,000 were pending because we included here the ones we extended up to October. The LTO's electronic driver's license (e-DL), which can be accessed through the LTMS Portal, was also discussed by Bautista.

“Ang magandang balita pa ay na-implement na rin natin ‘yung ating tinatawag na digital license. ‘Yung mga wala pa talagang hawak na physical, they can see their license doon sa kanilang portal (The good news is that we now have implemented what we call the digital license. Those who do not have a physical license can see their license on their portal),” he stated.

Driver's license holders must also have a physical copy of their license, Bautista emphasized, adding that e-DLs can be used as alternative identification cards.

Bautista said that those who received paper licenses may already get their physical license cards by August or September.
