Leynes appointed as LTFRB OIC-Chairperson

MANILA: Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista has appointed Attorney Mercey Paras Leynes as the Officer-in-Charge-Chairperson of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

According to a Special Order issued by the country’s transportation department, Leynes will replace Attorney Teofilo Guadiz III. 

Leynes, based on the said order, “shall perform and discharge al the functions and responsibilities of the office, unless otherwise earlier amended or superseded.”

To note, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the suspension of Guadiz after being accused of corruption and other irregularities in the agency.

Additionally, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary of Legal Affairs Reinier Paul Yebra issued Guadiz a Notice to Explain.

In response, Guadiz stated that LTFRB will work with the government regarding the probe against corruption in the bureau.

“Kagaya nga po ng dati na nating ginagawa, patuloy po nating aayusin at titiyakin na mananatili tayong patas sa paglilingkod sa ating mga stakeholder (As we have always done, we will continue to fix and ensure that we remain fair in serving our stakeholders),” Guadiz commented.

"As of this morning, nasa opisina naman ako at wala pa po akong nalalaman na anumang opisyal na inihain laban po sa atin pero kung mayroon man, haharapin naman po natin ito dahil malinis po ang ating kalooban (As of this morning, I am in the office and I am not yet aware of any official charges filed against us, but if there is, we will deal with it because our will is clean),” he added.
