LTO nabs 5 drug-positive drivers, 15 PUVs in newest spot inspection

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) nabbed five public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers who tested positive for illegal drug use.

Likewise, 15 PUVs were impounded after the said anti-colorum operation. The said PUV units consist of nine buses, three UV Express units, two jeepneys, and one taxi.

Eight of the buses — the agency pointed out — were impounded due to them operating with an expired franchise or absence thereof, while the ninth bus had defective components and had no license plate.

“This is just the beginning of the aggressive operation that LTO will do not only here in Metro Manila but in the entire country. This should serve as a warning to the drivers and operators of these colorum vehicles to stop their illegal activities,” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said.

“DOTr (Department of Transportation) Secretary Jaime Bautista has given strict instructions regarding these colorum vehicles because those affected by illegal operations are legitimate drivers and operators who follow the rules of our government,” he added.
