MMDA to suspend number coding scheme tomorrow

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will suspend the number coding scheme tomorrow, in light of the upcoming Labor Day. 

With the holiday giving way to a long weekend, the suspension could mean heavier traffic as more motorists could take advantage of the three-day break.

Tomorrow, which is Friday, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 are supposedly prohibited from using major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

However, due to the suspension of the coding scheme, automobiles with number plates ending in the said digits will be allowed to travel along major routes in the metro without being flagged and apprehended by enforcers. 

“Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng expanded number coding scheme bukas,  Mayo 1, 2026,  isang regular holiday, bilang paggunita sa Araw ng Paggawa. Awtomatikong sinususpinde ang number coding tuwing regular at special non-working holidays. Planuhing mabuti ang inyong biyahe upang maiwasan ang anumang aberya. Mag-ingat sa inyong pagmamaneho.Happy long weekend! (The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme is suspended tomorrow, May 1, 2026, a regular holiday, in observance of Labor Day. Number coding is automatically suspended on regular and special non-working holidays. Plan your trip carefully to avoid any inconvenience. Be careful when driving. Happy long weekend!),” the agency wrote in a social media post.
