Suzuki to build new factory in India

MANILA: Suzuki will build a new factory in India.

According to the Japanese carmaker, its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached an understanding with the State of Gujarat for the construction of a new automobile production plant in the area.

The new facility is expected to start operation in 2028. The annual capacity projected to come from the factory is approximately one million units per year.

In addition Suzuki also revealed that it will establish a fourth production line of Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited, in view of increasing production of electric vehicles in the future.

The fourth line is expected to start operation in 2026.

Once the fourth line is completed, Suzuki Motor Gujarat can increase its annual capacity of 750,000 units to one million units.

Combined with the new plant in Gujarat, the total production capacity in the State of Gujarat will be two million units.

The brand looks to produce some four million units per year in India by 2030. This is to prepare for the future expansion of the automobile market in India.

“In this ever-growing country, we will provide a variety of sustainable mobility options by focusing on Indian customers,” Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said.
