Recent Updates of Suzuki Celerio

The Suzuki Celerio is placed over the Alto 800 mini-hatchback and serves as the perfect car for new buyers. It received an update around the same time as the Alto 800, that is, in October 2017 and had a pretty good number of safety and entertainment updates given.

The updated Celerio has features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display that comes integrated with CD/DVD player and FM radio. It even gets smartphone connectivity options like USB and AUX-in.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that is capable of making 67 horses of power at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 90 Nm. The peak torque comes at just 3,500 rpm which means you wouldn’t have to rev the engine very hard to extract the total pulling power.

Suzuki is an expert in making small cars. In fact, seeing their expertise, many renowned automakers like Toyota have come forward to shake hands for future car developments. Suzuki brings its best game even to basic hatchbacks. Check the new Suzuki Celerio for instance. It was supposed to be an Alto replacement and it is, in fact, one in the European market. The Alto’s structure could no longer meet the safety standards there and hence was discontinued. However, since the crash safety norms in developing countries aren’t exactly stringent, the car is still sold here.

So, from 2014, the Suzuki Celerio has been around and we in the Philippines got it last year. Let’s see what’s the deal with the 2018 Suzuki Celerio, shall we?

Interior & Features

The cabin is modern looking than the Alto’s. We often wonder why the Suzuki Celerio is called an entry-level offering. It is far from that. The plastic fittings are done in a light grey color. There is a touchscreen infotainment system on offer while there are several cup holders on offer too. The steering wheel is devoid of any buttons. The wheelbase of 2,425 mm ensures that there is space for five. However, given the tapering contours at the back, the Suzuki Celerio can only comfortably seat four. The boot space is 254-litre. The meter dials are very simple and feature a digital readout of the fuel, efficiency and trip completed.

Everything in the new Suzuki Celerio seems well put together. The plastic is a tad hard towards the lower part of the dashboard but is passable given the segment the Celerio operates in. There is a manual AC unit and the aforementioned touchscreen system is decent to operate as well. There is an electric release for the fuel flap as well as the boot. However, there is no provision for a day and night mirror. The wing mirrors can be controlled through electrical adjustment in the cabin.

The Suzuki Celerio has a simple design. It looks like a tall boy compared to the bare basics Alto. The grille is a three-piece unit that connects the headlights. There are circular fog lamps, 14-inch alloy wheels, and a contemporary rear end unit. It is also so simple in here.

Take a look at the Suzuki Celerio specifications and you will understand. The dimensions of the Celerio hatchback read as 3,600 x 1,600 x 1,540 mm for the length, width and height respectively. The Suzuki Celerio color options are Pearl Snow White 2, Pearl Ablaze Red 3, Metallic Mineral Gray 2, Metallic Star Silver 4, Prime Cerulean Blue 2, and Pearl Super Black 2.

Ride & Handling

The Suzuki Celerio is set up on the stiffer side. This means the bumps can be felt in the cabin at low speeds. However, up the ante and the Suzuki Celerio seems to take things in its stride. There is no uneasiness that you associate with smaller cars at high speeds. The stability too is great. We also like the communicate steering wheel. It is a bit heavy at low speeds but provides adequate feedback. The Bridgestone tyres are squeaky but have ample grip. NVH too is decently controlled but at higher speeds, the engine, as well as wind noise, are audible in the cabin.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Celerio is offered with the choice of a 3-cylinder K10B 1.0-litre petrol engine. This engine is good for 68 PS of power and 90 Nm. One can option this engine with a 5-speed manual or a CVT. In terms of efficiency, the claimed number is 19 kmpl. Fire up the motor and you will be greeted with the 3-cylinder thrum. However, once you press the accelerator, the vibrations smoothen out. The Celerio is not a performance car but given the 845 kg mass it has to move around, the power seems adequate. A 0-100 kmph time of around 13 seconds is not lacklustre for this segment. It is, in fact, the best. Performance is enhanced by the smooth shifting manual gearbox while the automatic is a bit laggy in response. Overall fuel efficiency we achieved was closer to 13 kmpl. The top speed is around 145 kmph.

Braking & Safety

Dual airbags with ABS and EBD are standard. There are two variants on offer- MT and CVT. Suzuki also gives side impact beams, child proof door locks and reverse sensor as standard. Making it to the list of standard features is the rear defogger.

The Suzuki Celerio price is between Php 558,00 and 598,000. These are some of the lowest prices for an entry-level hatch. The Celerio ticks all the right boxes and we’re hard pressed to pinpoint its negatives. It is easy to drive and just the right car for the learner driver and his family. It competes with the Toyota Wigo which is priced much higher as well as the bare bones Mitsubishi Mirage. Definitely a worthy car for the price!

    The perfect drive

In my 6 months of owning the Suzuki Celerio, I have grown very fond of this possession of mine. While many professionals judge a car by its plush interiors, I would like to focus on the elements of real quality in the Celerio. After I noticed the well-oiled and damp feel to the switchgear and controls, I realised the well-thought Read More
