MANILA: Maruti Suzuki India Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki, has launched the 2022 Celerio mini subcompact hatchback in India.
The all new Suzuki Celerio now rides the carmaker's Heartect platform, which promises enhanced rigidity for safety and handling. The Heartect platform technology underpins many Suzuki models, including the S-Presso and Swift.
On the other hand, the start/stop tech, which switches off the engine during idling to save on fuel, is fitted to the 2022 Celerio's one-liter K10C unit that puts out 66hp and 89Nm of torque. Along with reduced CO2 emissions, the carmaker also boasted that the mill can net 26kpl.
Maruti Suzuki appears to have high hopes for the model, because in 2020, the passenger vehicle market in India moved 2.71 million units, of which nearly half was a hatchback like the Celerio.
"Maruti Suzuki intends to gain customers who are purchasing their first vehicles or changing them, by introducing the new Celerio, whose main target is entry car or additional car users. It will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar Plant," the carmaker said.
The 2022 Celerio is available with two transmission options: five-speed manual transmission and the Auto Gear Shift (AGS), which is a clutch-less manual transmission system. AGS is also found in the Dzire sedan.
For the exterior, Suzuki described the 2022 Celerio as wearing "sharp headlights and aggressive front grille, while the flowing lines of the body makes up the dynamic shape of the vehicle."
Inside, Suzuki said the hatchback offers improved legroom by changing the layout of the seats. Luggage capacity is increased as well, with the addition of 60:40 folding seats. A seven-inch touchscreen audio with smartphone connectivity, push button start, steering wheel controls, and push button start round out the equipment list.
Sales of the 2022 Celerio in India start this month, while the mini subcompact will also be exported to Latin America, Middle East, and Africa soon, Suzuki added.
