Dzire Pros & Cons

Things We Like in Dzire

Despite having a sub-four-meter design which is normally perceived to be claustrophobic for a sedan, the new Dzire feels roomy and spacious on the inside, thanks to a brilliant in cabin design engineering. The seats are positioned a bit low, with enough legroom and knee room giving the new Dzire a great back seat experience for a car of this size and price. Also, at 378 liters, the boot space of the Dzire feels great for a sub-four-meter sedan.

The sub-four-meter sedans usually are not so good examples of looks and design, with disproportionate silhouette being an issue with them. However, Suzuki has done a tremendous job by giving the Dzire a proportionate design on the outside, with the boot lid design not looking as if it is chopped off.

Suzuki cars are usually well known for their well-balanced powertrains which offer a good mix of performance, refinement, and fuel efficiency. The new Suzuki Dzire too feels the same by offering the best in class fuel economy.

Things We Dont Like in Dzire

While the 5-speed manual gearbox has great shifts and feels responsive, the same cannot be said about the AMT gearbox which is offered as an option along with it. The 5-speed automatic gearbox with which the new Suzuki Dzire is blessed with offers good convenience for daily commutes. However, the gearbox feels jerky when revved hard, which dilutes the driving experience a bit.

The steering feels light and convenient for daily driving duties. However, on higher speeds, the steering feels a bit lifeless by being lesser responsive and not weighing enough when speed rises, making it feel less connected to the driver.

Recent Updates of Dzire

Considering the growing popularity and demand of the Dzire, Suzuki Philippines recently launched a new and most affordable variant of the same. It is priced at PHP 549,000 and is now the base model of the compact sedan. It should be a good option for taxis. The Dzire has been one of the best-selling products of Suzuki in many markets. In the Philippines, it has three variants. The top-of-the-line model retails at PHP 698,000. All three of them share the same 1.2-litre K12M 4-cylinder engine that churns out 82 hp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is the top-end model that gets the 5-speed AGS whereas the other two are equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission. The latest model of the Dzire is a major improvement over its predecessor. It gets features like an updated instrument console, rear AC vents, flat-bottom steering wheel, 7-in multimedia audio system, etc.

The Suzuki Dzire became an instant hit in the Philippines as soon as it was launched. There were many reasons that made it happen. First, it was a Suzuki, which means customers would benefit from the vast company network in the country. Second, it was based on the Suzuki Swift which already was a popular car. Currently, the all-new Suzuki Dzire follows the same old pattern of being an extended variant of the Swift, but things are different now. It comes with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine and both manual and automatic transmission. There are two variants of the car starting at a price of Php 638,000.

Interior & Features

Suzuki has also improved the interior of the new Dzire. The all-black theme fits in perfectly. The use of materials aren’t of the best quality as you’ll find hard plastic here and there but they’re not cheap. The fabric seats provide good comfort. The rear seats, however, lack on the under-thigh support.

The steering wheel here is a flat-bottom unit that adds a bit of sportiness to the interior. It gels beautifully with the all-black theme. You get a few mounted controls here for audio, etc. Behind the steering wheel is the meter cluster. Surrounded by silver accents, the meter clusters look so much better than that of the earlier model. The white background light illuminates the digits for proper legibility.

There’s a 7-inch multimedia audio system that provides various connectivity options like USB, Bluetooth, Aux, etc. But we feel like that this system could have been made better. There’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Similarly, the manual air-conditioning system could have been replaced by an automatic climate control.

The space inside the Suzuki Dzire is one of the best in its class. There is so much more legroom for the rear passengers. The headroom is also sufficient. For the comfort of rear passengers, there is a dedicated air-con vent. You also get a 12V accessory socket. The boot capacity has also been increased to 378-litre from the previous model. You’ll also find various storage spaces inside the cabin like the glove box, console box, door pockets, cup holders, passenger seatback pocket, etc.

From the outside, the new Suzuki Dzire looks similar to the Swift. However, this time around Suzuki made sure that both these cars are not exactly a carbon copy of each other. Therefore, the Dzire has made certain compromises but it still manages to look charming. The front end features a wide grille with chrome surround. We also find the use of chrome in the front bumper. The headlights give the car a European look but they miss out on LED daytime running lights.

The side profile of the new Dzire has been altered to make it more proportionate than the previous model. The sloping roofline at the rear merges neatly with the boot lid of the car. It now looks a proper sedan instead of a hatchback with an extended boot fitted forcibly. The new 15-inch alloy wheels are nicely done, too, making the Dzire that much more attractive.

Moving to the rear of the car, we’re greeted by a set of combi tail lights that features LED signature lighting so that the Dzire is easily recognizable. The chrome moulding on the boot lid adds an extra bit of premiumness. Overall, the new Suzuki Dzire is a good improvement over the earlier one.

Ride & Handling

The Suzuki Dzire offers a good ride quality in the city. The suspension setup consists of MacPherson Strut w/ Coil Spring at the front and Torsion Beam w/ Coil Spring at the rear. The steering feels very light and provides just the right amount of feedback. However, when you start pushing the car to its limits, especially in the corners, the steering feedback fades away. You don’t get an accurate feedback from the front wheels, and thus, it becomes a bit difficult to handle the car.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

Under the hood of the Suzuki Dzire is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K12M petrol engine that has been tuned in a state to produce a max power of 83 PS at 6,000 revs and generate a peak torque of 113 Nm at 4,200 revs. Suzuki has worked on this engine to make it more refined. These figures are more than sufficient to provide a decent performance along with fuel efficiency.

As far as the transmission is concerned, you get either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift) unit. Suzuki claims that its intelligent actuating system controls the clutch and gear-shifting to provide precise gear shifts on the basis of vehicle speed. The engine will easily take the car to triple digit speeds and you can easily cruise there without putting too much pressure on the engine.

Braking & Safety

The braking duties on the Suzuki Dzire are handled by a set of ventilated disc brakes for the front wheels, and the wheels at the back get drum brakes. Together they provide a decent stopping power. On top of that, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) comes in handy to enhance the stopping power.

Apart from ABS and EBD, the list of safety features isn’t that long and includes dual front airbags (driver and passenger side), seat belts with pre-tensioners, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, brake assist, etc.

The new Suzuki Dzire is definitely a level up than the earlier model. It offers more features, is wider than before, is more handsome to look at, and comes with a reliable 1.4-litre K12M petrol engine. Yes, there are certain elements that we wished could have been made better like hard plastic in the interior, lack of LED lighting, etc., but overall the Dzire is a pretty neat package at its price. Talking about price, the GL M/T variant comes at Php 638,000, whereas the top-of-the-line model, the GL PLUS AGS will set you back by Php 698,000.

    Best compact sedan?

When it comes to small cars, Suzuki just seems to know how to make them. The Dzire is one such example. For a compact sedan, it is very well proportioned and feels complete! It may have compact dimensions, but it definitely does not lack space on the inside, in fact it is more spacious than cars in higher segments! Good Read More

    A reliable and efficient sedan

Suzuki apart from being a reliable brand, has a vast service network in the country, and that is one of the reasons I own the Dzire. The front is complemented by a chrome surrounded grille that goes well with the headlamps. The side profile looks attractive because of the roofline and large 15-inch alloy wheels.
