One of the most compact and capable load-carrying pickup trucks in the Philippines market, the Suzuki Carry is a trusted name in the commercial vehicle segment for last few decades. In its latest avatar, the Suzuki Carry, in its cargo version, is available in a single variant, which is offered only in white colour and carries a price tag of PHP 499,000.
On the inside, the Suzuki Carry looks way too basic, however, there are multiple rectangular design elements, which do make the dashboard look quite unique to the eyes.
The two spoke non-adjustable steering wheel, as well as rectangular housing for the all-analog instrument console, look tad too basic. However, what’s actually interesting is that there are two more similar rectangular housings on the dashboard – one in the centre console which features a single DIN audio system and the other on the passenger side which forms a cavity to store small things.
The bottle holder on the left side of the steering wheel and cavity above the glove box, along with the glove box itself, make the dashboard very practical in terms of storing things. Suzuki has tried to maximize the cabin space by positioning the gear lever on the dashboard, besides the manual controls for the air conditioner. Also, the Suzuki Carry also comes with a sliding function for the driver’s seat.
The Suzuki Carry, just like any other low priced commercial vehicle, has a basic appeal in its design. With a boxy design and bare basic looks, the Suzuki Carry focuses on utility rather than having good visual appeal with a contemporary approach.
The front of the Suzuki Carry has a flat design, which comes with squared layouts for the components. This can be seen in the design of the front windshield, large headlamps and trapezoidal all-black front grille.
The side doors of the Suzuki Carry look simple and come with scooped character lines in the middle, and have blackened door handles as well as manually adjustable outside rearview mirrors. The fully exposed steel wheels with the absence of proper wheel caps do make it look even more basic.
The Suzuki Carry comes with a large size cargo area, which can be opened from all the three sides, which eases loading duties in the cargo. With all the cabin space and loading bay loaded to the brim, the Suzuki Carry has a load-carrying capacity of almost 940 kgs, which given its small size, is an impressive figure. The rear portion of the cargo comes with large Suzuki lettering embossed on it, with rectangular tail lamps positioned on its lower portion.
The Suzuki Carry rides on rather small 13-inch wheels and is fitted with Macpherson struts with coil springs at the front and over slung type leaf springs at the rear. The ride quality and handling balance isn’t something that can be termed comfortable, however, it matches the sturdiness of the overall vehicle. The small turning radius of just 4.4 metres makes it manoeuver very easy.
The Suzuki Carry is powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is shared with other Suzuki offerings like the Jimny and the Ertiga. However, given its utilitarian image, the engine here has been retuned, which allows the engine to deliver 96.5 PS of maximum power output and 135 Nm of peak torque output. The engine here is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Suzuki Carry misses out on even the very basic of safety features such as ABS and parking sensors, however, it is a very basic pickup truck which is aimed purely for cost-conscious buyers.
The Suzuki Carry is one capable and hugely practical pickup if one is looking for a small and not so expensive pickup for his business purposes. While it is very basic when it comes to visual appeal, the spacious cabin full of practical storage spaces and good load carrying capabilities make it an easy and compact pickup truck to live with.
