WATCH: Toyota GR Corolla gets 2 new special variants in US

MANILA: Toyota Gazoo Racing unveiled the GR Corolla RZ and GR Corolla Morizo Edition last Wednesday, June 1. The GR Corolla RZ is the Japanese market trim level of the all-new GR Corolla, which was introduced last April. The GR Corolla Morizo Edition, which was unveiled in the US, was meticulously crafted to achieve "an untamed energy that captivates customers" and "a driving taste that excites and that powers the urge to keep on driving, with Toyota Motor Corporation President and Master Driver Akio Toyoda (a.k.a. Morizo), directly behind the wheel of development prototypes. The GR Corolla RZ will be available this fall through Toyota car dealers around Japan, while the GR Corolla Morizo Edition will be available in limited quantities at GR Garage sites starting this winter, with a reservation lottery set to begin this fall.

The Corolla has supported Toyota's development since its debut in 1966, playing an important role in Toyota's first racing endeavors, with the TE25 Corolla earning Toyota's first World Rally Championship in 1973 and the Corolla Levin winning the 1,000 Lakes Rally in 1975. Many customers have commended the Corolla's driving capability, and the model has grown through time into a station wagon and SUV, among others, to become a versatile choice for customers at all phases of life. Toyoda's strong intention to "absolutely prevent the Corolla―especially because it is widely loved―from becoming a simple commodity and bring back a Corolla that captivates our customers" inspired the development of the recently launched GR Corolla.

The GR Corolla continued the tradition of developing ever-better motorsports-bred cars that concentrate on refining cars to win races and making them commercially available. The GR Corolla was equipped with a hydrogen engine and competed in the Super Taikyu Series while still in development to thoroughly hone a hydrogen engine, which includes new technology, as well as the car. A team of professional drivers, in-house evaluators, engineers, and technicians, led by Toyoda, tirelessly put the car through its paces on a variety of roads to achieve an unbounded energy that captivates customers. This allowed the developers to find flaws and fix them constantly, resulting in a car that interacts with the driver and fuels the desire to keep driving.

Toyoda's perceptive desire to attain an untamed energy that enthralls customers also inspired the development of the GR Corolla Morizo Edition. Weight reduction, increased engine torque, and optimized transmission gear ratios, blended with improved cornering execution through the use of monotube shock absorbers and high-performance tires, have resulted in better dynamic performance.

For the GR Corolla Morizo Edition, the rear seat was removed to create a two-seater, reducing weight by approximately 30 kilograms. Maximum torque has been increased from 370 Nm to 400 Nm, and mid-rpm torque has been increased to boost acceleration performance. An additional 3.3 meters of structural adhesive and additional body reinforcement braces were applied to improve body rigidity.

Lower-geared differential gears and closer ratios for the first, second, and third gears also enhanced dynamic performance and created a pleasant gear engagement sensation. Wider high-grip tires, on the other hand, improve turning stability and braking performance.

Exclusive semi-bucket seats keep the body in place for precise driving, even when the driver is subjected to strong g-forces as a result of improved driving performance. Cast-black door trim ornamentation and instrument panel and an Ultrasuede-upholstered steering wheel and center console add a sense of elegance to the sporty interior.

The exterior color is an exclusive Matte Steel, and the front windscreen displays Morizo's signature as a testament to the GR Corolla Morizo Edition's unique and modern approach to design.
