WWCOTY changes name to affirm global expansion

MANILA: The Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has announced that it will be renamed to “Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year” starting this year.

In a press release, WWCOTY wrote that the replacement of the name is part of the organization’s goal to continuously expand worldwide.

“It is a slight change in our name, but very important in terms of strategy because our mission is not only to choose the best cars of the year, but also to ensure there is considerable representation of women in the automotive sector,” WWCOTY Executive President Marta Garcia said.

The WWCOTY is composed of 75 women automotive journalists from 52 countries across all five continents, including Philippines' Genevieve Tiu. The organization gives recognition to the best vehicle models of the year, as voted by its all-female jury.

Established in 2009 by New Zealand-based motoring journalist Sandy Myhre, the WWCOTY  now has 500-million cross viewership.

“The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year will continue to grow in 2024, rewarding the best cars, the best initiatives and drawing attention to everything that can contribute to increasing the visibility of women in the automotive industry. For this reason, the word World will be replaced by Worldwide. A new year begins for the Women's Worldwide Car of the Year,” the organization stated.
