From The Experts

Things we like

Compared to the previous generation Hyundai Accent which was gradually beginning to show its age after all these years, the new Accent sports some serious alterations to its exterior design. The all-new design has the same fluidic design silhouette as its predecessor, however, it now looks much sharper and contemporary than ever before.

The new Hyundai Accent now comes with increased levels of fit and finish, which do go well with the revised interior design. Even from the inside as well, the car feels plusher and richer compared to the model it has replaced.

The Hyundai Accent is being offered with a petrol and a diesel engine, however, it is the latter which feels much punchier to drive. In fact, the performance outputs of the 1.6-litre engine in the Accent makes it the most powerful car in its segment.

Great suspension: The Hyundai Reina is mounted on a McPherson strut in front and a couple torsion beam axle at the back. This makes Reina’s suspension setup one of the best in class

Spacious: The Reina has a 2,570mm wheelbase. This makes the car’s cabin very spacious. There’s ample headroom and legroom on the rear seat.

Huge trunk: The Reina comes with a massive 415-litre trunk space. There’s no worry about excess luggage.

Looks pretty: This is one of the better-looking cars in the entry-level sedan segment. The front fascia looks poised and sporty.

Things we don't like

Hyundai has made the new Accent feel rich in terms of fit and finish, however, the lack of a number of modern comfort and convenience features do make the new Accent feel a bit dated. The absence of primary features like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, push-button start and many more still does not create a strong impression in its favour.

While the new Accent feels engaging to drive with decent driving dynamics and powerful engines, the rear seat cabin of the new Accent falls short on space and comfort. The shoulder room is at a premium, due to which seating for three passengers at the rear is quite a squeeze.

While the light steering setup is a boon in urban driving conditions, the same setup at higher speeds too makes driving a bit less exciting. The steering does weigh a bit more at higher speeds, but not enough from a driving enthusiast’s point of view.

Not for five: Despite the huge cabin space, the Hyundai Reina isn’t exactly a 5-seater. The knee room and legroom could be tight for five passengers.

Stiff ride quality: While Reina’s suspension is much appreciated, at times it may feel a bit hard. This is because of Reina’s sporty handling.

Delayed transmission: The car’s transmission is a bit delayed. It takes a second or two to produce power. It often ‘sleeps’ from the first gear.

No touchscreen: The Reina comes with a 2-DIN infotainment unit. But even the entry-level models of most of its rivals come with a touchscreen.
