From The Experts

Things we like

Edgy and sporty design

Impressive performance

The new generation Yamaha YZF R15 has got a tremendous road presence, thanks to its sharp design language which is a straight derivative of the flagship Yamaha YZF R1. The front fascia with sleek LED headlamps as well as sporty rear end with LED tail lamp, along with sharply styled side profile gives it a much needed big bike appeal.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 155cc engine of the Yamaha YZF R15 is by far the best 150cc engine on a motorcycle till date, for the performance and refinement it offers. With variable valve actuation, forged pistons and enhanced cooling system, the R15 feels energetic to ride in whatever the engine rpm is

Compared to the previous generation model, the new Yamaha YZF R15 is loaded with all the bells and whistles which a premium 150cc motorcycle should come with. The LED lights at front and rear, revamped and much informative fully digital instrument console and upside-down front forks do give it the feel of an expensive motorcycle

Things we don't like

Stiff ride quality

Limited full tank range

While the LED headlamps at the front look very appealing with their white lighting pattern and sleek design, they do not have much powerful throw especially in darkest of conditions. Also, the daytime running lamps on the sides too are not much noticeable in bright daylight

Like the previous generation models, the Yamaha YZF R15 has a slightly uncomfortable pillion seat, which is too heightened for shorter pillion riders

The sporty suspension setup works wonders in making the Yamaha YZF R15 a great cornering machine. However, it is slightly stiff for tackling daily urban riding, which when taking the aggressive riding ergonomics into account, makes it slightly uncomfortable to ride in daily traffic conditions
