Here's what you need to know about the recently launched models in the Philippines

Should you get a Chetak or VinFast e-motorcycle?

Last month, two electric two-wheeler brands entered the Philippine market: Chetak and VinFast.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is Chetak’s sole model offering for the Philippine market?

Chetak’s only model for the local market is the 3503.
  • What are the models effered by VinFast e-motorcycle as of its local entry?

VinFast’s initial e-motorcycle offerings are the Viper, Feliz II, and Evo.
  • While both offer sustainable mobility solutions for the country’s riders, their products have distinct features and characteristics that cater to different market segments—one of which could be you.

Here's what you need to know before deciding which one to get.

    Target market

The two brands cater to different customer segments: premium and mass market.

Chetak is targeting the premium segment with its initial offering, the Chetak 3503, as well as the strategic location of its first dealership.

Trimotors Technology Corporation President Raul Manglapus III led the opening of Chetak's first dealership in Alabang, Muntinlupa, and revealed that more sales facilities will be established in prime locations nationwide.

Meanwhile, VinFast is aiming for the mass market with its initial three-model lineup. VinFast e-Motorcycle Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ireneo Fabros shared the company's goal of becoming the country's top motorcycle brand.

    Its initial lineup consists of:

    • Viper
    • Evo
    • Feliz II

According to Fabros, pre-orders have already reached the "thousands," with units now being turned over to their respective buyers.

Additionally, VinFast immediately established 21 3S (sales, service, and spare parts) dealerships in key areas, including Metro Manila, Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija in Luzon, as well as Davao and Zamboanga in Mindanao.

    Charging mechanisms

Chetak and VinFast also offer different battery charging solutions.

VinFast's models come with removable batteries that can either be charged at home by plugging them into a standard outlet or swapped at one of the company's battery-swapping stations, which are expected to number 30,000 nationwide. This setup is ideal for riders who live far from charging stations or in apartments and condominiums without dedicated EV charging facilities.

Notably, all of VinFast's initial electric scooter models sold in the country can accommodate two removable batteries at a time.

In contrast, the Chetak 3503 uses a fixed battery that is charged by connecting the supplied charger to the scooter's charging port and plugging it into a standard three-pin wall socket. This setup is more suitable for owners with dedicated parking spaces that have access to electrical outlets, such as those in private residences.

    Pricing

Since both brands have their own strengths and limitations, their pricing differs significantly.

The Chetak 3503 is priced at P130,888, with a limited-time introductory price of P115,888.

Meanwhile, VinFast's electric scooter lineup is priced as follows:

    Model

    Starting price

    Viper

    P73,900

    Evo

    P62,900

    Feliz II

    P64,900

With all these factors at hand, would you choose a VinFast or a Chetak e-motorcycle?
