3 reasons to like the Yamaha Lexi

Yamaha Motor Philippines Incorporated (YMPH) introduced the Lexi a few months ago. With this nameplate, the Japanese marque’s local arm gained a strong contender in the 155-cubic centimeter (cc) automatic motorcycle segment.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price of the Yamaha Lexi?

The Yamaha Lexi is currently sold with an introductory price of P99,900.
  • What are the color options of the Yamaha Lexi?

The Yamaha Lexi is available in Matte Green and Black.
  • On the other hand, this segment of the local motorcycle scene is heavily populated by plenty of attractive offerings - even from YMPH itself.

So, does the Yamaha Lexi, the fresh face on the block, have some key points that may sway buyers towards it? Let’s find out here by listing three characteristics of the Lexi that we like the most.

    Other stories:

    Highly accessible

One of the biggest attraction points for Filipino buyers with regard to the Yamaha Lexi is its price.

To put it simply, the Lexi starts at P99,900, making it one of the most affordable 150 to 155-cc motorcycles in the market right now.

Notably, the said model bridges the gap between the more expensive Aerox (which starts at P125,900 for the Standard), and the cheaper Mio Fazzio (P93,900), which already belongs to the much economical 125-cc.

When it comes to competitors, the closest Honda model that holds a candle against the Yamaha Lexi is the Click 160. This model, however, retails at P116,900, which is priced much higher than the Yamaha.

Suzuki, on the other hand, has the newly launched Burgman 15, which is heaps more expensive at P165,000.

    No compromises in power, features

While the Yamaha Lexi is highly accessible, it does not compromise at all when it comes to performance.

For reference, the Lexi uses a 155-cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve, gasoline engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and a 4.2-liter tank. Altogether, this powertrain can produce up to 15.1 horsepower and 14.2 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.

On paper, the Lexi’s output figures are up to par with its Yamaha 155-cc siblings and many other similarly sized automatic motorcycles in the market.

Other mechanical bits of the Yamaha Lexi include a front telescopic fork, a rear unit swingarm, as well as a front disc brake and rear drum brake. The model likewise uses a dry, centrifugal, shoe-type clutch and a wet-sump lubrication system.

Better fuel efficiency, meanwhile, is provided by a start-stop system that automatically shuts off the motorcycle at stops and restarts with a simple turn of the accelerator.

Features-wise, the Yamaha Lexi is no slouch as well. Specifically, it provides its users with LED lighting fixtures, a liquid crystal display meter panel, a spacious seat and footboard, USB ports, and a pair of 14-inch wheels wrapped in tubeless tires.

Notably, the meter panel of the Yamaha Lexi comes standard with Y-Connect compatibility. For the unaware, this smartphone app is able to track the motorcycle’s fuel economy, the motorcycle’s location, and treatment recommendations.

    Attractive design

Another big reason to like the Yamaha Lexi is its design, which greatly balances the familiar sharp corners and cuts found on the Aerox with the elegant and sophisticated outline of the Nmax.

The result is a motorcycle that isn’t too aggressive looking. It is still a head-turner, mind you, but it doesn’t actually stick out too much even when parked side-by-side with its more expensive siblings.

On the one hand, we likewise appreciate the relatively compact form factor of the Lexi. It is 1,970 millimeters (mm) long, 720 mm wide, and 1,135 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 1,350 mm and a ground clearance of 135 mm.

With that kind of heft, the Yamaha Lexi is easy to maneuver in city streets and the often tight motorcycle parking spots that we see in the local setting. Additionally, available color options for the Lexi include Matte Green and Black.

    Final thoughts

Overall, the Yamaha Lexi is great value for the money. It retails below P100,000, and despite that, it presents as much performance as its 155-cc siblings like the Aerox and the Nmax. On that note, people looking for a practical yet peppy ride might be well suited to the Lexi.

So, if you like what you see in the Lexi, do not hesitate to visit the nearest Yamaha dealership and ask for a test drive. Who knows, this could be the right motorcycle for you.
