Yamaha Lexi
Here is what the company’s newest model has to offer.
Fit, finish
The Yamaha Lexi appears to take styling cues from its larger stablemate, the NMax. That said, it boasts a bold front fascia with a large headlamp at the center. Its turn signals can be found on the upper portion of its front fairings, flanking its upright windshield, topped by angular side mirrors.
At the center is a comfortable saddle and a flat floor board that can accommodate small items that range from backpacks to maybe a few days’ worth of groceries. Its side fairings are rather smooth with some angles, slapped with the “155” emblem and the “VVA” logo, which we will get to in a few.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelOther notable features found on its sides are its stylish exhaust guard and the housing of its transmission system. One can spot the foot pegs here too.
Its rear gets a matte grab bar for the pillion rider, an extended fender with reflectors on each of its sides and a plate holder, as well as a taillamp with integrated turn signals.
The Yamaha Lexi is available in Black and Matte Green.
Powertrain, chassis
The Yamaha Lexi is powered by a 155 cc, liquid-cooled engine with VVA — which optimizes performance and fuel efficiency — mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As such, it produces 15 horsepower (hp) and 14.2 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
Stopping power comes from a disc brake at the fore with a drum brake at the rear. It uses a telescopic fork at the front with a unit swing monoshock suspension at the back.
For its wheels and tires, it uses a combination of a 14-inch wheel with a 90/90 tire at the front and a similarly-sized wheel with a 100/90 tire at the rear. These are tubeless models.
Other features, pricing
The Yamaha Lexi also has an LCD meter panel, a USB-ready power socket, a decent-sized underseat compartment, and a stop-start system to improve fuel efficiency.
It will set back buyers P99,900, at least while the introductory price stands.
Honda Click160
Considered a strong competitor in the segment is the Honda Click160. It boasts strong, aggressive looks with a slight edge in engine displacement.
Here is what buyers can expect from the nameplate.
Fit, finish
As mentioned above, the Honda Click160 has an aggressive design language with a sharp-looking front end. Here, one can find its headlamp and turn signals on the corners of its front plastic panel. Instead of a tall windshield, it is low and exposes the handlebars and meter panel section for a sportier look.
To its sides are snappy fairings with similarly snappy details. This motorcycle, too, has a floorboard for carrying light items and a pair of tucked foot pegs. The exhaust guard and CVT housing are visible from the side.
Photo from Honda Philippines Incorporated Facebook pageAt the back, the Honda Click160 gets an angular grab bar, an extended rear fender with its signaling system poking from the sides of the plate holder, and a taillamp that matches its overall character.
Colors to choose from are Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic, Matte Pearl Crater White, and Matte Cosmo Silver Metallic.
Powertrain, chassis
Reflecting its sporty demeanor is a 160 cc engine with a CVT. The said setup makes 15 horses and 13.8 Nm.
Brakes come in the form of a disc and drum combo, while its suspension system consists of a telescopic fork and a monoshock unit swing.
It has 14-inch cast wheels with thicker 100/80 (front) and 120/70 (rear) tires.
Other features, pricing
Other notable features include an idling stop system, a full digital meter panel, a USB charger, and a smart key system with an anti-theft alarm and an answer back function.
The Honda Click160 bears a slightly higher tag at P108,900.
Kymco Dink S 150
The only non-Japanese brand in this three-way moto comparo, the Kymco Dink S 150 holds the fort for the Taiwanese manufacturer in the segment dominated by its neighbor.
Considered the “evolution” of the Kymco Dink R 150, here is what enthusiasts can expect from the motorbike.
Fit, finish
The Kymco Dink S 150 sort of combines the upright riding position of the Yamaha Lexi and the sporty, fierce looks of the Honda Click160.
At its front is a shield-like fascia with a high windshield, but with plenty of strong lines. A two-part headlamp sits at the center, which reminds us of how the lights of the new Yamaha Aerox look. Its turn signals sit close to the front lights, creating a more streamlined appearance.
Photo from Kymco PhilippinesLike the other two on the list, the Kymco Dink S 150 also has a carrying board for daily items. Its fairings on the side reflect its strong personality with sharp looks and neatly tucked-in foot pegs. Here, the chunky muffler cover is visible alongside the relatively large CVT housing.
To its rear is a fender that sticks out a little, a plate holder, and sharp lights for backside illumination.
Available paintwork is Pearly White, Pearly Black, and Silver.
Powertrain, chassis
For its powertrain, the Kymco Dink S 150 uses a 150 cc powerplant with a CVT. This also produces 15 hp with 13.2 Nm of pulling power.
Braking is facilitated by discs all around. They both feature anti-locking technology for added safety. Suspension is made up of a telescopic front fork and a double rear shock system at the back.
Having the ability to carry larger riders, it is also equipped with 13-inch tires shod with 120/70 tires at the front and 130/70 rubbers at the rear.
Other features, pricing
The Kymco Dink S 150 has a digital meter panel, a keyless operating function, USB charging, and a traction control system.
With the added features, it costs more at P142,900.
Verdict
All three models have their own advantages, but balancing the ideal mix of pros and cons is the Yamaha Lexi.
It has good power and torque with decent features and an attainable price tag.
