Overview

For years, Yamaha has been ruling the automatic segment mainly through its Mio range of scooters. This trend is likely to continue as Yamaha continues to strengthen up its automatic scooter lineup. While all eyes were focused on the new Mio Aerox 155, Yamaha silently introduced the latest version of its popular entry-level automatic scooter, the Mio i 125S with both mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. Taking a step ahead of the Blue Core engine which was introduced in the last version, Yamaha now has introduced the stop & start system in the new Mio i 125S which switches off the engine after 5 seconds of being idle to save fuel. The latest Mio i 125S continues to draw power from the 125 cc, SOHC, air-cooled, 2-valve engine that pumps a max power of 9.38 hp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 9.6 Nm at 5,500 rpm. It also features an integrated key shutter with answer back key system that assists the rider in locating the scooter in a crowded parking area. Aesthetically, the new Mio i 125S now flaunts new body graphics along with an embossed MIO emblem and comes in two new colours - white and black. It is priced at Php 74,900. The standard version of the Mio i 125 (without stop & start system) will continue to be on sale at Php 70,900 in its four colours - blue, yellow, magenta and Vibrant Orange.

Design

The Mio i 125S looks very snazzy owing to its edgy and modern styling. At front, the Mio i 125S gets a centrally mounted headlight and turn indicators along with a Yamaha emblem right below the handlebar which adds to its perky styling. The sides feature new body graphics and a 3D MIO emblem. Also, the five-spoke, black coloured alloy wheels add to the styling quotient of the Mio i 125S. While the latest S variant is offered in two colours- white and black, the standard variant without the stop and start system comes in four colours- blue, yellow, magenta and Vibrant orange.

Ride & Handling

Built on a steel underbone frame, the Mio i 125S comes fitted with a comfortable dual straight seat placed at a height of 750 mm which provides a comfortable riding experience. Its light and nimble handling along with quick acceleration make it perfect for driving on city roads. Moreover, with a wet weight of 94 kg and a sleek design, the Mio i 125S can easily be maneuvered around in heavy traffic conditions. The suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and unit swing at the rear which fairly absorbs the jerks from bumps on the road.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

Powering the Mio i 125S is a 125 cc, SOHC, air-cooled, 2-valve engine with fuel-injection that pumps a max power of 9.38 hp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 9.6 Nm at 5,500 rpm, mated to an automatic transmission. Yamaha is constantly working to improve the engine performance of its scooters, especially with its Mio lineup. They introduced the Blue Core Technology engine in its last upgrade of the Mio i 125 and this time they introduced the stop & start system in the Mio i 125S. When enabled, this technology automatically switches off the engine after 5 seconds of being idle to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption and low emission. One can easily return to riding with its quick start function that is possible because of the stored air-fuel mixture in the engine. Yamaha claims that the scooter can clock a top speed of 90 kmph and return a mileage of 50 kmpl.

Braking & Safety

Braking duties are carried by Hydraulic single disc at the front and multiple drum brake at the rear. The Mio i 125S comes fitted with 14-inch alloy wheels covered in a 70/90 tyre up front and an 80/90 tyre at the rear which provides a decent grip on the road. Adding to the safety of the bike, Yamaha has equipped the Mio i 125S with an integrated key shutter and answer back key system. The shutter over the keyhole can easily be closed but opens only with the backend of the key, while with a button push on the answer back key, the scooter starts emitting electronic sound and lights to signal its location.

    Great for around the city

I bought a Mio 12 months ago and it’s reliable and comfortable with plenty of room for 2 large people to sit comfortably. It is also smooth and accelerates well. It is excellent in the city at low to medium speeds but does not ride so well on dirt roads out in the province. But that is not what is Read More

    Yamaha Mio i 125: An edge-cutting scooter

The Yamaha Mio i 125 is more like a designing perfection than anything else. It is one of the coolest, most vibrant and definitely the best-designed scooters available in the Philippines right now. The edgy headlamp and the attractive grab rails at the rear are the highlights. Another likeable thing about the scooter is the low seat height and extremely Read More
