The Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 has a sleek and athletic stance, which is coupled by the unique styling cues, especially at the front. The petite LED headlamp mounted on the front apron make the Mio Soul i 125 very edgy and give it a futuristic appeal
Thanks to its light-weighted character, the Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 feels very friendly and energetic to ride, especially for new-age riders who are new to riding. The kerb weight of just 96kgs is quite helpful for new riders.
The Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 sources its power from a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected, 125cc engine, which produces a maximum power output of 9.5PS and a peak torque output of 9.6Nm. Considering the low kerb weight of 96kgs, the Mio Soul i 125 feels energetic to ride with impressive power delivery.
While the entry-level positioning of the Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 do justify its lack of features, it should have come with a couple of standout features to lift up its appeal as a more value for money offering.
The slim tires of the Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 do aid in making the scooter an agile handler. However, these tires do curb the overall appeal of the Mio Soul i 125, which otherwise is a sharp looking scooter.
While the LED headlamps do give the Yamaha Mio Soul i 125 a nice and premium feel-good factor, the throw of the light, especially in darkest of the conditions isn’t as great as one would expect it to be.

Yamaha leads the automatic scooter segment in the Philippines with a wide range of offerings, especially in the Mio range. To further solidify its position in the automotive market, the company introduced the latest version of its popular automatic scooter, the Mio Soul i 125S. In its previous update, Yamaha equipped the Mio Soul i 125S with a Blue Core engine, while this time they have gone a step ahead and introduced the stop-start system in the new Mio Soul i 125S which switches off the engine after 5 seconds of being idle to save fuel. This way a lot of fuel is saved and even the harmful emission is reduced. To enhance the looks, Yamaha has done a few tweaks here and there like a sharper front, new graphics, 3D embossed SOUL logo and introduction of two new colours- Matte Gray and Matte Green. That said, the standard version of the Mio Soul i 125 without the stop-start technology will still be up for sale in Vibrant Orange, Matte Black and violet at Php 79,900. It competes against the Honda Click 125i, the Piaggio Typhoon 125 and the Suzuki Skydrive Fi.
The Mio Soul i 125S flaunts a very masculine and bold design with sharp curves. The front apron holds an aggressively designed headlight and turn indicators placed right below it, while the sharply designed rear view mirrors are placed on the handlebar. A Yamaha logo can be spotted right below the handlebar. There are new graphics on the sides with an embossed 3D MIO logo. At the back, it features a neatly designed tail light and a black coloured split grab-rail. The standard variant is available in Vibrant Orange, Matte Black and violet colour options, while the latest Mio Soul i 125S is offered in Matte Gray and Matte Green paint schemes.
The Mio Soul i 125S is built on a steel underbone frame with a comfortable seat placed at 773 mm. The seat provides comfortable riding experience to both the rider and the pillion. The design is very sleek and lightweight. Moreover, the kerb weight of the new Mio Soul i 125S is only 92 kg which offers a very light handling. It can easily be manoeuvred in heavy traffic conditions. Suspension setup comprises conventional telescopic forks at the front and unit swing at the rear which is decent enough to handle the bumps on the roads.
It draws power from a 125 cc, four-stroke, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder, two-valve engine which generates a maximum power of 9.38 hp at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 9.6 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The power is transmitted to the wheels through a V-Belt automatic transmission. The engine features a stop-start technology to provide better fuel-efficiency. When the stop-start is turned on, it automatically switches off the engine after 5 seconds of being idle to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption and low emission. The rider can easily switch back to the riding mode with its quick start function which uses the stored air-fuel mixture in the engine to turn it on instantly. Both electric and kick start options are available on the Mio Soul i 125S and it can hold a maximum of 4.2-litre of fuel in its fuel tank.
A hydraulic single disc at the front and mechanical drum brake at the rear are responsible for braking on the Mio Soul i 125S. It is fitted with 14-inch alloy wheels enclosed in an 80/80 tyre at the front and a large 100/70 tyre at the rear for a better road grip especially in slippery conditions. Considering the criticality of bike theft in the Philippines, Yamaha motors has installed an integrated key lock system with a shutter in the Mio Soul i 125S. This shutter can be easily closed with a finger flick but requires the back end of the assigned key in order to open. Additionally, it also gets a smart key with a smart button on it. When this button is pressed the scooter starts producing electronic sound and lights to signal its location to the rider.
Mio Soul i 125 is the perfect choice for someone who wish to ride a sporty commuter. The scooter is equipped with all the standard features, offer good engine performance and come with Yamaha's reliability, giving very limited reasons to pick any other option over it.
