Yamaha has been enjoying its market leader position in automatic scooter segment for quite some time now, especially with its Mio line of scooters. The company’s latest Mio i125S and the Aerox 155 were warmly received in the Philippines. Another strong player in the Mio lineup is the Sporty which was recently introduced by the company with a Euro 3 compliant engine coupled with a redesigned body and styling. Powering the new Mio Sporty is a 113.7 cc, air-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve engine that churns out a max power of 7.64 hp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 7.2 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The fuel tank capacity of the scooter is 4.1-litre. Carrying a price tag of Php 67,900, the new Mio Sporty is available in six vibrant colors- Matte Orange, Matte Black, Matte Grey, magenta, yellow and purple. The Mio Sporty competes against the likes of the Suzuki Smash 115, the Honda Wave 110 Alpha and the Honda Beat.
As the name suggests, the Mio Sporty features a trendy and sporty design. At the front, the handlebar houses the headlamp and black coloured edgy rear view mirrors. The front apron features large turn indicators, dual air vents and a Yamaha logo just below the handlebar. Moving towards the sides, we can spot graphics and an embossed 3D MIO emblem along with a silver painted exhaust muffler. This emblem can also be seen on the front apron but only in non-matte colour schemes. A stylishly designed tail lamp and black colored single grab rail add to the rear looks of the Mio Sporty. Moreover, the six new vibrant colors make it look more appealing.
Yamaha has built the Mio Sporty on a steel tube underbone frame and has fitted it with a thermal welded double seat to provide added comfort to riders. This supports a comfortable riding posture and a pleasant driving experience. With a kerb weight of 94 kg and a compact design, handling the Mio sporty is easy and fun. Suspension setup comprises telescopic front forks and unit swing at the rear which are more than capable of handling the bumps.
Yamaha has updated the engine of the Mio Sporty and it’s now equipped with a Euro 3 compliant one. It draws power from a 113.7 cc, air-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve engine that generates a max power of 7.64 hp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 7.2 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels using a V-belt automatic transmission. Both electric starter and kick starter options are available on the scooter and its fuel tank capacity is 4.1-litre.
Braking responsibilities rest with Hydraulic single disc up front and mechanical leading-trailing drum at the rear. Considering the level of acceleration and power of the Mio Sporty, this setup is enough to bring the scooter to a stop even at higher speeds. The 14-inch alloy wheels are shod with a 70/90 tyre at the front and an 80/90 tyre at the rear. Although the tyres are not tubeless, they do provide a proper on-road grip.
Ever since I have bought a Mio Sporty for myself, I have never felt the need to drive any other bike. The Mio is so comfortable that one can keep on riding this scooter for many miles at a stretch without a hint of discomfort. This scooter gets a unique design which not many would like and find attractive. But
The Mio Sporty is possibly the cutest scooter around! I love its simple no-nonsense design. The matte black version looks stealthy and is the colour I got. For daily commute the Mio Sporty does a great job, it is easy to manoeuvre and mostly comfortable. What else can we ask for
Everywhere I used to go, I used to spot at least a few Yamaha Mio Sporty. I used to wonder what is so great about this bike that so many people have chosen to buy it. It was not until a few days back that I got my answer. I got the chance to drive the Yamaha Mio Sporty that
The Mio Sporty is a hassle-free scooter. It requires very little effort to ride and thanks to its small size, it's very easy to manoeuvre. The engine gets the job done but sometimes with 2 onboard, it can struggle. The various colours mean you can get the style you want, making it personal to you. The ride quality is also
The only things that I don't like about it are the side mirrors, either too small or probably because of its triangular shape that makes it hard for me to see the sides especially the rear. Next is the passenger footrest, when "from" or "to" a stop, the back of my legs always connects with the passenger's foot which always
