Yamaha Motor PH launches LEXI

MANILA: Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. (YMPH) has launched the new Yamaha LEXI automatic motorcycle at the “Dare to Defy” event held at the SM Mall of Asia by the Bay. 

Per the Japanese motorcycle brand’s local arm, the new Yamaha LEXI— carrying the "You're Up Next" campaign — is positioned to bridge the gap between its smaller 125 cubic centimeter (cc) two-wheelers, such as the Mio lineup, and slightly pricier models, 155cc offerings like the Aerox and NMAX.

To do the aforementioned, YMPH is retailing the new Yamaha LEXI with a highly accessible introductory price of P99,900.

Regardless, the new Yamaha LEXI doesn’t compromise on power, features, and styling. And in some ways, it has characteristics that set it apart from its siblings. So, what is this newly-revealed motorcycle offering to buyers?

Powertrain

Propelling the new Yamaha LEXI is a 155 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-valve, gasoline engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The said engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a single dry centrifugal clutch system, and a 4.2-liter fuel tank. 

At maximum, the new Yamaha LEXI can produce up to 15.1 horsepower and 14.2 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The aforementioned power figures make the new Yamaha LEXI on par with many other 155 cc nameplates currently sold in the local market. 

To improve fuel efficiency, the new Yamaha LEXI also features a stop-and-start system. It was likewise kitted out with a front disc and rear drum brake setup.

Bold Aura

Design-wise, the new Yamaha LEXI comes with an impactful style language. On one hand, the model features a more spacious seat optimized for two passengers. This gives its rear section a chunkier look. 

Added practicality for the new Yamaha LEXI is provided by a wide footboard - a feature that is not present on other 155-cc Yamaha models in the local market. This space, YMPH says, will be useful for carrying small items like a work bag or even groceries. Additional space is also available from the model’s underseat storage bin. 

Apart from the new Yamaha LEXI's aggressive styling cues, the model was also fitted with bold LED lighting fixtures at its front and rear ends. Notably, the turn signals were higher than the headlamps.

Supporting the new Yamaha LEXI's weight and providing a stable yet agile ride are its front telescopic fork and a rear single-sided unit swing arm equipped with a shock absorber. It also has 14-inch wheels wrapped in tubeless 90/90-14 (front) and 100/90-14 (rear) tires.

Other features

Besides the new Yamaha LEXI’s mechanical bits mentioned above, the new model also features a USB-ready power socket, an electronic ignition system, and a liquid-crystal display (LCD) meter panel. 

The said meter panel comes with the Y-Connect software - a smartphone application that is able to track one’s fuel economy, the location of one’s motorcycle, and treatment recommendations if the system detects malfunctions. 

Available colors for the new Yamaha LEXI include Black and Matte Green.
