Yamaha unveils NMAX E, will PH have it?

MANILA: Yamaha has unveiled the NMAX E at this year’s EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori).

Created around the value proposition of “Feeling true to yourself every time you ride and knowing that every ride is a choice you can be proud of,” the full electric two-wheeler is the latest addition to the brand’s Max lineup—particularly on the much-appreciated NMAX stable.

Per Yamaha, the latest offering is intended for global markets and was developed as a next-generation premium urban sport scooter that combines the latest in EV technology with the ride performance, premium styling, comfort, and convenience of its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart.

Motorcycle specifications

Powering the vehicle is a newly developed, lightweight, and compact eAxle power mated to a 3.5.-kilowatt fixed lithium-ion battery that lets the motorcycle cover up to 104 kilometers. The powertrain also has three ride modes (Sport, Touring, and Eco) ready to cater to different riding conditions and user preferences.

It also comes with an onboard charger--allowing it to be juiced up at home or public charging facilities for electric vehicles.

Given that it comes with heavier components, Yamaha NMAX E features a new lightweight, highly-rigid backbone frame that houses the battery and electric motor near the center of the vehicle.

Aside from that, the motorcycle has a reverse feature to help riders with maneuvering in narrow parking spaces, on slopes.

In terms of space, the Yamaha NMAX E gets an underseat compartment that can fit full-face helmet and a footboard similar to the gasoline-powered version.

Lastly, the scooter is fitted with a five-inch digital display with EV-specific graphics and connectivity features through the dedicated Yamaha Motor On app. This technology provides:

• Turn-by-turn navigation
• Vehicle location
• Distance traveled
• Remaining battery charge

Although Yamaha Motors’ local distributor remains quiet on the possibility of bringing it here, Zigwheels Philippines has a strong belief that the NMAX E could make it to the local market given the growing demand for electrified units in the country.

To note, the NMAX E will be mass produced in neighboring country Vietnam.
