Aion Y

In the Philippines car market, the Aion Y is being offered with a triple-tone black-white-green theme, with the dashboard and door panels having a dual-tone black and green theme and the seats having an all-white leather upholstery. 

The cabin of the Aion Y looks very much belongs to the current era, with the 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console and the large 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system enhancing the novelty of the cabin. Even the flat-bottomed multi-functional steering wheel with rectangular side spokes and gloss black theme for the buttons looks as youthful as the rest of the cabin.

The sleek central layer of the dashboard has a scooped design, integrating the slim AC vents on the corners of the dashboard and centre console. The automatic climate controls are housed in the lower centre console, from which the central tunnel emerges, housing twin cup holders and a wireless charging pad.

The spacious and thoughtfully laid-out cabin of the Aion Y has enough space for five full-sized adults, while also having additional new-age features like a 6-speaker audio system, rear AC vents, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, fully-foldable driver’s seat, ambient lights and front and second row USB ports. 

The Aion Y has the stance of a stretched hatchback, but there are some angles from which it possesses the very likeable crossover SUV stance. The design looks minimalist and fresh, with the front profile having Y-themed all-LED headlamps with segmented-themed LED DRLs.

Besides the Aion logo, the front fascia of the Aion Y does not have any other prominent visual highlight. The side profile of the Aion Y has a sharp crease that flows from the side edge of the headlamp to that of the tail lamp, enhancing the length of the car.

While the 17-inch machined alloy wheels and door-mounted rearview mirrors make it look sporty, the flush-type electric hidden door handles and thick cladding over wheel arches further add more visual drama to the side profile. At the back, the Aion Y has a sleek and continuous-length LED tail lamp with a connected LED light bar, which rounds off the look of the car when viewed from the back. 

With Macpherson independent suspension at the front and torsion beam suspension at the rear, which have soft-tuned springs, the Aion Y promises supple ride quality and decent composure and handling at lower urban speeds. It’s only at higher speeds, that the ultra-light steering setup of the Aion Y fails to provide precise feedback. 

Both the variants of the Aion Y come with a front-mounted electric motor as the primary source of power, which churns out a maximum power output of 134 bhp and a maximum torque output of 225 Nm.

Paired with a single-speed transmission, this electric motor is accompanied by different battery packs in both variants. While the Standard Range variant comes with a 50.6kWh battery that claims a 410 km range, the Long Range variant delivers a range of 490 km from its 63.2kwh battery. 

Not having ADAS in either of its two variants, the Aion Y covers only the basics, by having front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and 360-degree parking camera.

The Aion Y has been primarily made available as an all-electric vehicle for first-time car buyers or those who are new to electric vehicles. In that sense, the Aion Y offers tremendous value for the price at which it is being offered, considering the space and performance it packs in.
