In the Philippines, the Kia Stonic is the brand's most economical crossover. It has several characteristics with its stablemate, the Kia Soluto. The Stonic is the brand's 11th model, and it sits below the Kia Seltos in terms of size and price Both the exterior and interior have clean lines that are a result of Schreyer's European design language for the Kia brand. If there's one thing the Stonic is unquestionably good at, it's the design--which is evident in Kia's design progression over the previous 10 to 15 years.
The Stonic mixes SUV features with the small footprint of a subcompact hatchback. The vehicle is small compared to the other SUVs like the Honda HR-V, Geely Coolray, and even the Seltos. The design language of Stonic is clearly Kia: from the angular lines, massive wheel arches, and black cladding which give it a tough, aggressive appearance. The black contrasting roof of the EX model, in particular, gives it a distinct edge. Moving over to the inside, Kia owners will recognize its well-organized layout. There are soft-touch materials despite the vehicle’s affordable price, as well as plastics that don't appear cheap.

Everything is in order in the Stonic’s interior. One may also notice that the hard touch plastics of the interior are a bit rough and scratchy in some places, but this only adds to their overall durability.
Kia also provided silver accents on the touch screen panel as well as on the doors, adding some liveliness and modernity to the interior. For the seats, all are wrapped in fabric. Though some occupants might find it a bit rough, it still manages to be comfortable to sit on even on long drives or when stuck in traffic. Depending on the trim level, two climate control choices are offered. The Stonic is Kia’s entry level offering under its crossover lineup and sits just below the Seltos. It’s no secret that the Seltos is one of the Korean car brand’s most iconic models thanks to its easily recognizable sporty and energetic exterior. Due to its size, the Stonic tends to look more like a hatchback. The vehicle carries the brand's iconic tiger-nose grille as well as projector halogen headlights which are standard across the board. The grille on the bottom of the panel offers a quirky touch of silver while a skid plate on the lower side of the grille provides contrast to the vehicle’s other colors. A large air inlet located below efficiently cools its engine. On the side, the Stonic delivers a clean and simple design with its straight body lining and black cladding all over. The subcompact crossover also received LED daytime running lights, however, this is only available only on the top of the line EX model.
Each exterior element was carefully designed to make the new look its best from all angles. The rear end of the vehicle includes a sloping capped window with a stop lamp, a pair of three-dimensional LED tail lights, strong fenders, a bumper, and a skid plate that assists in airflow regulation. The Kia Stonic is 4,100 mm long, 1,735 mm broad, and 1,533 mm tall. It is the ideal size to portray its youthful appearance while providing adequate road presence. It also has functional roof rails extended towards the back which adds to its sporty exterior. The new Kia subcompact crossover also features 185 mm of ground clearance which is ideal for navigating speed bumps and less-than-ideal city roads. The SUV comes in six distinct colors: Clear White, Clear White With Black, Extreme Blue, Flame Orange With Black, Flash Yellow With Black, and Prime Red.
The Kia Stonic is a 5 seater mini SUV. The vehicle has approximately 352 liters of trunk capacity, which is more spacious than the Kia Rio's 325 liters. When the conventional 60:40 split-folding rear seats are folded down, the space is capable of increasing to around 1,155 liters. Although this is still less compared to the SUV’s three main competitors. The boot opening is one of the biggest in the Stonic's class, making it easier to get awkward or bulky goods inside the trunk. With the rear seats down, a two-step boot floor allows you to create a level floor and a secret storage place under the boot floor for valuables.
The Stonic is surprisingly agile with a sharp front end that appears to be loyal to its hatchback roots. Kia equipped the car with fast handling, giving it a youthful feel that works nicely in town. Pushing the Stonic isn't really enjoyable but it gets the job done. The car makes good use of its SUV posture up front. The squat front end is excellent for parking and you can see where the car stops.
However, the rear of the car is dominated by style over substance and it may be difficult for some drivers to see much out of the back. Kia has had to tighten things up to keep body roll in check so the ride can be a little stiff for us. The entry-level trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, while the higher end variants sport 17-inch wheels.
Though from some observations, the 17-inch wheels have a noticeable detrimental influence on the ride. The suspension also often gets confused over speed bumps, heaving over the uncomfortable obstruction and bouncing off the other side. It's a trade-off between classic aesthetic vs comfort as is with many SUVs.
Overall, the 99 hp and 118 hp variants of the Stonic's 1.0-liter engine are nearly identical in delivery. All variants of the automobile go from 0 to 62 mph in around 10 seconds, have a peak speed of roughly 115 mph, and are officially rated at 50 mpg so expect low- to mid-40s in real-world driving.

It manages to deliver just enough power to the pedals for city driving. Although in other scenarios it does dip a bit more. On the highway and more open areas, the Stonic pulled an average fuel economy of 14.7km/L.
Meanwhile, being a little bit more aggressive on the gas will bring you around the 7.8 to 8.5km/L range. And although these numbers show that it can be fuel-efficient, drivers will still have to be mindful especially if you’re a little heavy on the gas pedals.
The Kia Stonic offers a plethora of functional safety features for its affordable price tag. The SUV includes standard safety features such as dual-front airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, ISOFIX, child seat anchors, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control, and traction control. A rear-view camera is also standard on all variants, while the back sensors are exclusive only to the top of the line EX trim.
The high end EX also offers advanced features such as stability control, hill start aid, and an anti-theft system. What drivers will enjoy the most about the Stonic EX is that it has rear disc brakes which was a pleasant surprise.
The Stonic has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can be linked via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is very easy to use and user friendly. It has a touch sensitive button that is very responsive and also includes standard sound entertainment features such as Radio, MP3, Bluetooth and a USB port for mobile phone connectivity.
The Stonic has its single zone automatic climate control. A key feature of most Kia models is its extensive provision of storage space which is very convenient for passengers to store items for easy access while on the road. Unfortunately, the back row doesn’t include back pockets, air vents, nor a center armrest.
However, the rear seats do include fixed headrests. The overall leg and headroom are also ample enough for a comfortable ride experience despite being a small vehicle.
