MotorStar Star-X155 IIA

Like its other commuter siblings from the same family, the Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA feels too archaic and basic when it comes to design. However, given that it is the most expensive motorcycle from Motorstar’s commuter lineup, the Star-X 155 IIA comes with a couple of additional features, which do give it an edge.

At the front, the Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA comes with a main round headlamp assisted by two functional round auxiliary headlamps. The overall lighting assembly is quite functional, but it does make the front end of the Star-X 155 IIA a bit weird. The motorcycle comes with chrome finished front fender, which makes it stick to its generic roots of a proper commuter.

And it’s not the front headlamp assembly where the weird basic appeal of the Star-X 155 IIA ends up. The fuel tank is a nicely designed curvy unit, but then, the boxy appeal of the underseat side body panels make it look not too eye-pleasing. The spoke wheels, as well as grey, finished engine and other mechanical components give it a cheap visual appeal. However, the large single piece seat is functional and comfortable enough for two full sized adults. Also, the large pillion grab rail as well as the pillion backrest mounted on it makes it capable enough to mount extra load on the rear seat with ease. The rear profile of the Star-X 155 IIA ends up in a very odd looking tail lamp which is nestled just below the tailpiece at the back.

The single piece handlebar comes with modern looking levers, with the rear view mirrors as well as two-pod instrument console too looking a bit acceptable. The presence of an electric starter button is another ‘fancy’ feature on the otherwise very basic looking Star-X 155 IIA.

The Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA comes with a very basic suspension setup of telescopic forks at the front and a set of double coil springs on both the sides with a rectangular swingarm at the rear. Given the maximum payload limit of 180kgs, the rear suspension feels sturdy and strong enough to carry extra amount of load with ease, something which only eases by the presence of large single piece seat and tubular grab rail. However, the skinny tyres on the 17-inch wheels, as well as shoddy drum brakes, lack the amount of confidence when riding hard.

The Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA has been fitted with a very simple and functional four-stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled, 155cc engine. Though it lacks the finesse as well as refinement of its Japanese rivals, it is adequate enough to get the job done. Coupled to a very notchy in feel 4-speed gearbox, the engine has a maximum speed limit rated at 90 kmph. However, during the riding, one might not appreciate the refinement levels of the engine of the Star-X 155 IIA.

The Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA lacks the presence of any of the modern day safety equipment. It even lacks the presence of disc brakes or a combined braking system, which many of its rivals are offering.

Even after being the range-topping motorcycle in its commuter lineup, the Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA feels like a half-hearted execution just like its lower-spec siblings. Be it the way it looks or the way its mechanical components feel, the Motorstar Star-X 155 IIA simply doesn’t feel worthy enough to sign the final deal in its favor. Go for the Star-X 155 IIA only if you are too tight on your budget, considering its only praiseworthy fact that it is the cheapest motorcycle in its segment.
