NWOW ARS

Going by the design and equipment levels of the NWOW ARS, it is safe to say that its design is uninspiring and feels just basic, sticking to its purpose of delivering a low-cost commuting solution. The design language of the NWOW ARS is functional and a very common one shared by many other low-cost Chinese scooters, further reducing its individuality.

The NWOW ARS has a raked and compact front apron, which has a V-shaped headlamp cluster covering its lower half. This cluster includes a hexagonal halogen headlamp flanked by small-sized halogen positioning lamps on the upper corners. The headlamp cowl also gets a curved cluster of lights spread across its width, with clear lens halogen turn indicators on the corners. 

The NWOW ARS has a compact floorboard, which is large enough to accommodate the knees and legs of all types of riders. The scooter gets 16-inch alloy wheels, which look premium due to their dual-tone finish. The rear section side body panels look slim and have mild graphics over them, while also having a large seat above them which is accommodating enough for two full-sized adults. This seat has decent cushioning for making short rides feel comfortable, though the scooter is not meant for long-distance riding. 

The rear profile of the NWOW ARS also has a very generic design, comprising a wraparound tail lamp cluster below the large single-piece pillion grab rail. This tail lamp cluster consists of a centrally-placed halogen tail lamp and clear lens turn indicators to its sides in the far stretched corners. The scooter has very functional-looking front and rear fenders, which serve the purpose of making the scooter look proportionate. 

The rider’s cockpit of the NWOW ARS has a full-LCD instrument console placed within a large housing. This rectangular LCD screen with a blue backlight has vehicle speed, odometer, battery level and clock on display, while the housing in which it is placed also gets other warning lights. The switches and overall build quality of the NWOW ARS feel below average, which is one of the reasons behind its shockingly low price point.

The very functional and basic chassis setup of the NWOW ARS comprises telescopic forks at the front and a unit hydraulic coil spring at the rear. The ARS rides on 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped with slim 2.5-16 tubeless tyres. With large-sized wheels and lightweight construction, the NWOW ARS feels nimble to ride at lower speeds, making it a decent city commuter. The scooter has drum brakes on both wheels for stopping duties. 

The NWOW ARS is powered by a 0.45kW electric motor, which is mounted on the hub of the rear wheel and propels the scooter to a top speed of 40-50 kmph. The scooter lacks the zing and performance of a traditional petrol scooter, as it suffers from a sluggish acceleration. However, the ARS picks up pace linearly and feels decent enough for low-speed motoring. The 48V20Ah lead-acid battery of the NWOW ARS has a maximum claimed range of 60-80 km and takes 6-8 hours for a 0-100 percent charge. 

The low-cost, entry-level positioning of the NWOW ARS makes it lacking in the safety department, with this electric scooter having no proper safety amenities. However, as a must-have feature, the NWOW ARS has a lockable storage compartment beneath the seat for storing small-sized items. 

The entry-level, low-cost NWOW ARS has very low-level engineering and designing prowess, which makes it leagues behind the traditional petrol-powered scooters or even the new-age, tried-and-tested electric scooters. While the ARS feels crude and half-engineered, the affordable pricing and a decent full-charge range make it a cheap solution for daily commuting.
