Yamaha YZF R1M

Based on the regular version of the R1, the more premium Yamaha YZF-R1M has an added vibe of sophistication in its design, primarily due to the use of a carbon fibre-themed finish for the front and side panels of the fairing.

The aggressive-looking Yamaha YZF-R1M look eye-catching even today after almost eight years of its existence. This in-your-face styling of the Yamaha YZF-R1M has a centrally-placed duct for ram air intake and LED projectors tucked beneath its sides. The turn indicators are integrated into the fairing-mounted rearview mirrors, with the front fairing also having a transparent windscreen in its upper half and sleek LED DRLs above the LED projectors.

The Yamaha YZF-R1M has the purposeful, aerodynamic design of an authentic supersport motorcycle, with a committed riding posture with lower-set clip-on handlebars and rear-seat foot pegs. This track-oriented styling also eliminates the pillion seat for a sportier-looking seat cowl in place of it. The minimalist-looking tail section of the YZF-R1M has a tiny vertical LED tail lamp with the tail cowl having aerodynamic air passages within its side parts.

The Yamaha YZF-R1M, with its black theme for the engine and alloy wheels and satin silver aluminium finish for the upswept exhaust, also has a full-TFT instrument console that displays all the real-time riding and track-specific information. Based around a slim aluminium Deltabox frame designed exclusively for the best track riding experience with sharp handling, the Yamaha YZF-R1M also has a magnesium subframe and aluminium swingarm for better shock absorption and stability.

Compared to the standard suspension on the regular R1, the Yamaha YZF-R1M has fully-adjustable suspension – Ohlins gas-charged NPX inverted fork at the front and a gas-charged mono-shock with aluminium swingarm at the rear. This Dynamic Ohlins electronic racing suspension of the Yamaha YZF-R1 is assisted by the Ohlins ERS system for real-time data obtained through IMU for a better and more responsive riding feel while riding or cornering at higher speeds.

The 17-inch magnesium light-weight alloy wheels of the Yamaha YZF-R1M have a 120/70 ZR17 front tyre and 200/55 ZR17 tyres, with both being Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 soft-compound racing tyres. For braking, the YZF-R1M has dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 220mm disc at the back. 

For the YZF-R1M, Yamaha has made no tweaks to the four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-four, 998cc engine of the standard version of the R1. Featuring Yamaha’s now-legendary cross-plane crankshaft technology, this CP4 inline-four engine of the R1M has titanium connecting rods, intake valves and forged pistons, along with other lightweight components like titanium engine internals, aluminium fasteners and magnesium outer covers, for more durability and smoothness in engine operations. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox while claiming 200 bhp of maximum power and 106.6 Nm of maximum torque. 

The list of safety features offered in the Yamaha YZF-R1M includes ABS with brake control, factory-level GPS with data logging, engine brake management, power delivery mode, lean-angle sensitive traction control, slide control and wheelie control, all of which are controlled by Yamaha's Communication Control Unit (CCU) and the Y-TRAC data logging system of Yamaha.
