Yamaha YZF-R1M to get an upgrade this 2026?

MANILA: Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) might introduce the latest version of the YZF-R1M to the local market soon.

Such a speculation rose after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released Memorandum Circular MVL-2026-5045, approving the two-wheeler’s specifications in the country.

Here’s what the Yamaha YZF-R1M will offer based on the documentation from the government regulator.

Motorcycle specifications

On paper, the LTO-approved Yamaha YZF-R1M measures:

The sport motorcycle sits on 17-inch wheels.

At the heart of the latest Yamaha YZF-R1M is a 998 cubic-centimeter, four-cylinder, Euro 3-rated, gasoline-fed motorcycle that lets the motorcycle reach speeds as fast as 300 kilometers per hour.

Should this be the same version seen abroad, then the powertrain would employ the brand’s proprietary crossplane crankshaft derived from the YZR-M1 MotoGP-contending race motorcycle.

Guaranteeing stability for the two-wheeler is its Ohlins electronic racing suspension made up of NPX gas-charged front fork and a dedicated control unit that adjusts front and rear damping in real time for optimum performance whether braking, cornering, or accelerating.

The assumed-arriving model will probably carry the following appliques:

• MotoGP-inspired carbon-fiber winglets
• Carbon-fiber windscreen fairing, side fairings, front fender, and tail
• Polished aluminum swingarm

Further, Zigwheels Philippines is looking forward for the Philippine-spec Yamaha YZF-R1M to be fitted with a cableless ride-by-wire Yamaha Chip-Control Throttle with a full suite of electronic rider aids.

Aside from that, a communications control unit (which enables a global positioning system-tracked lap timer, data recorder, and data recorder, among others) could be fitted in the incoming model.

In other countries, the new Yamaha YZF-R1M’s starting price is around $27,899 (around P1.676 million). On the other hand, the current Philippine-spec Yamaha YZF-R1M’s is being retailed for P1.769 million.
